After reading this thread it reminded me what I went thru a year ago prior to buying a JD 3720 w/cab (deluxe), smaller R4's (loaded), 72" MMM, and front mounted snow blower. After using it for one summer mowing 5 acres of grass and one winter cleaning snow off 600' of driveway, I have no regrets with the R4 tires. They do not tear up the grass like R1's and they have adequate traction in the snow. In fact, I blow snow in 2WD until 4WD is really needed. Biggest problem I've had is on a steep hill with ice and that would be a problem irregardless of the tire type, and in these cases, 4WD definitely was a huge help.
I've been agonizing over whether to get the rear wheel extensions to improve CG/stability. I've made it thru one year with elevated pucker factor but I've got lots more hills on this old 300 acre farm where this tractor has yet to go. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the 3720.
Oh, did I forget to mention how nice the AC is in the summer and the heated cab is in the winter.......... Good luck with your new tractor.

I am also going for the smaller R-4s, but I am gonna use my existing R3 Turf specials for the mowing. They are pretty good in the snow too due to their wide footprint. My normal R3s seem to slip around quite a bit , even on flat snow covered surfaces:eek:, with a light covering. Probably really due to my tries not being loaded and all the weight on the front end with that boom mounted blade that is going outta here with the 4310.:)

Any special reason why the Smaller ones? I liked the tread, size, etc.. of the larger ones and the tractor already had em....

I wasn't happy with the turf tires on the Massey Ferguson 1045 that I recently traded for a JD 4320 with R4's (approx same weight tractor). The Massey was fine mowing hay and grass but had very poor traction in snow and mud --- so bad I had to get tire chains in order to use the rear mounted snow plow. Having the option to use either should work out very well depending on the type of work you are doing. Good luck with your new tractor. I'm sure you will be happy with it.

These are gonna be my secondary tires so I really wanted them free but could not make that part of the deal so I went with the smaller ones. I think it is only a 2" height difference, and that will make it easier to get into my shed.

Ok, i will admit it, once they would not go for giving the tire free, i decided not to pay the extra cash for the larger R4's Doh! Yeah I like the look of the large ones too -do the smaller ones look different? I thought they the same just shorter?
