Shibaura SP1740 hydraulics

I'm looking for help with the hydraulics that operate the three point hitch on my Shibaura tractor. The hitch will raise my implements, but the implement settles down as soon as the switch is returned to the neutral position. Also, hydraulic fluid leaks out past the fill plug. Any suggestions re:
1. What is wrong?
2. Where I can get parts to fix it?

Hi There,

I recently bought a used SP1740 with a front end loader.

The 3 Point linkage was slow to move or wouldn't move at all on mine. It turned out the hydraulic filter was clogged. The filter is on the right side of the motor just in front of the engine oil filter and just below the injector pump. It's a paper cartridge style and is in behind a plate retained by 4 bolts.

The 3PL is solenoid controlled. There is a block on the top right side of the gear box under the seat with 2 large solenoid valves on it. One solenoid brings the linkage up and the other lets it down. If your linkage is dropping on its own then one one the valves may be stuck open or there is a wiring fault that is opening the valve. Try disconnecting the solenoid wiring and hooking the leads up to a car battery to manually switch each of them and see what happens.

Not sure how you will go finding the parts if something is wrong but hopefully there are common parts from the locally delivered versions.
