Well like I've written - I JUST BOUGHT the 300, I've no experience, but I know I'm going to want to move around outside, so I was shooting for a 50' reach at least. I figured 300 amps, fudge factor 350 amps, 101 feet and proper-size-welding-cables would be 2/0 at the max.
I'll start with less, but my original point was that saving about 50% on the 300 doesn't save a dime on all the rest.
It's like a tractor without attachments, limited use. I expect I'll spend twice the price of the welder in PPE, rods, cabls etc.
The welder doesn't weigh so much that you can't move IT around. Just invest in some cable for the 240 volt power. It is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the thick copper for the welding leads. You can put your welder on a little cart and take it near your work. I just made up an "extension cord for mine out of SO cable. Sure your cord would need to be larger than mine but still way smaller than 2/0 welding cable.. If you do decide to go with 2/0 welding cable you will need to make up a "whip" for the stinger end out of much smaller cable.. cause you aint gonna like welding with 2/0 cable one little bit on your stinger. Personally I think the 2/0 welding cable is overkill anyway.. but each to his own.. I humbly offer my ideas as just suggestions.
