Guys,

Using the M-7040 extensively. So far, so good. My first Kubota hyd shuttle. What is the normal engagement delay between F & R on the hyd shuttle? Mine takes up to 2 seconds to switch to R, sometimes it's almost instantaneous. Oil level is good & hyd fluid appears clean. One thing that scares me is I have no proof that 50 hr hyd fluid change was performed since I bought it used. Currently shows 170 hours. However, the hydraulic filters are not the stock gray painted filters you see on a new factory Kubota, but are the typical white filters you buy from parts.

I've been having some hydraulic shuttle shifting problems as well on my M7040 at 190 hrs. They are slightly different but check out some of my posts.

The long delay does seem unusual - especially if the time is variable. Apparently there are adjustments to try to fix this but I haven't purchased a workshop manual - the manual has not been updated in several years.

Of more concern is the hydraulic fluid used. I used 15 gallons of Tractor Supply UDT equivalent that may be causing my problems. The hydraulic oil will be changed out with Kubota UDT at 200 hours in hopes that the problems will be resolved.

The white Kubota filters would indicate that the 50 hour service was done on yours. What hydraulic oil was used is the question. It may not make a difference but on the other hand, it may.

My M8540 does the same thing at 140 hrs. I did the 50 hr service my self with factory filters and non factory UTD. Saw no difference in operation.

On my hydraulic shuttle the quickness of engagement depends on how the lever is moved. If it is moved so it stops briefly in neutral, the pressure in the valve drops so it takes more time to activate the other clutch pack. If the lever goes quickly thru neutral without stopping, pressure is maintained and engagement is much quicker. Also, on earlier models there was an adjustable orifice valve that could be set for cold, moderate and hot climates to compensate for oil viscosity - no idea if your rig has this feature.

Works just as Dick mentioned on my L4850 as well.

That's the situation with mine. Stop at neutral and "momentum" is lost in the H/S. Go through the 3 steps fast and you get much faster transition between F & R.

Moving the lever fast gives a quick shift - even quicker at higher rpm. Fast shifts overload the machine. Not to mention face plants in the steering wheel are considered bad form :D

My NH backhoe has a Powershift transmission (Dana) in it. The whole shifter control on the column is an electronic microprocessor. No matter how fast you shift, it times the shift perfectly. The Kubota Hyd Rev is more operator sensitive.
