I'm a new guy on the block, just bought an i think 1989 147 and i am having a problem locating the tractors trans shift, left side right side? the manual isn't that great and after years of use all levers show their age, time to start labeling levers.I know i have 6 +2 but i don't know the shift pattern, big difference from my 1950 3 speed ford. Thanks again

I'd have to look it up but I would just put it in each gear and see which one is faster and faster and faster yet.

I know my ym2000 has a weird numbering system. 5th gear is on the Low side and 4th is on the high side. But that's just semantics. You could call it 1-8 and not know a difference or 1-4 on Low side, it make a difference

On the YM2000 it's just the mechanical fact that top gear, low range, (5th), is a higher gear than bottom gear hi range, (4th).

Not saying it is not so, just saying that seems unusual. Seems most times the speeds keep getting higher anytime you move to the next range up. Pretty sure my old 2002D did.

I agree with Norm.

On YM240/YM2000 it feels like they designed a considerably taller 'road gear' as 4th in each range. Hi range 1st is still a relative creeper, it feels a half-interval lower than lo range 4th.

That's subjective feel, I don't know the actual gear ratios.

I find this interesting. A page from the 240 parts manual and a page from the 1700/2000 parts manual. Notice the different speeds. I wonder if engine speed is different between the 240 and 1700/2000? I always assumed the 1700 and 2000 had the same gears but evidently not.

Yes 4 is faster than 5 but who cares it's so slow it really makes no difference. It's nice cause you have a slow speed on the H side and then you have a faster gear on the L side when you need one

Messed up again. Didn't even notice the chart for the 1700/2000 is meters per hour so if translated to mph it comes out real close to the 240, maybe difference being in engine rpm. Don't know why I get myself tangled up with stuff like this. :confused2:

Yea I have the 240 service manual. It lists the ground speeds etc.
