One of the first things I did after picking up my land in the forest was to acquire and have a 20 foot shipping container dropped on site. The bill was just over 2000$ and it came on a tilt bed roll-a-way type truck, he dropped it in one of the few clear flat spots. The container served as a garage for a bulldozer and anything else I didn't want stolen. The bulldozer came a month or so later. The container was delivered painted dark orange/brown with numbers marked all over it. It looked bad and so I painted it inside and out with oil based enamel tinted to an olive drab. Much better.

As I cleared the land, I decided I needed to move the container further back into the woods since the only thing more theft deterent than a metal container is a hidden metal container. The dozer is to be replaced with a 20k$ Kubota before too long so I wanted to add a little to the security.

Well it turns out that these things are a little heavy. I think the tare weight is near 5000 lbs. I didn't know if I could move it but the dozer just grunted a bit to break it loose and then we started sliding.

I was impressed with how well the drug container smoothed the road.

Maybe someone ought to market these containers as a way to level a driveway when pulled. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Actually I think a shipping container is a darn good way to store your equipment until you build and get moved on the property.

That's one heck of a harrow! All you have to do now is paint a help wanted sign on the front of it and the n'er-do-well's will never find it!!!!

I was thinking "for sale one dozer with tow behind shop"

The fact that it can fit into and tow the container is a selling point but I don't think I want them taking my container. Once you get accustomed to locking things up before you leave it is hard to go back.

Very secure, that will keep the kids off it.

It's going to be fun when it sits for a while, and you start it up.

cough, choke, spit, and a big lougie..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, I've been using the container this way in the previous location for about a year. In cold weather, after it has been sitting for a couple of weeks, it will create a bit of smoke. I don't want to inhale either the clear smoke or the thick white smoke so I hold my breathe and drive out of the container before letting it warm up. It is not eye watering bad but not very good to inhale. The heavy smoke slowly empties out of the container.

Really it works pretty well.
