Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

That's exactly what I was looking for, some rough ideas for how much it would be to ship. I know there are a lot of variables and they are just general ideas but thanks.

If I happen to come across a good deal on a used tractor far away it may come in handy. Most likely I'll be patient, wait for the right tractor to come a long for a while, and if it doesn't come along by spring time or so (when I'll start to need it) then I'll look at buying new and maybe downgrading my 'preferences' a bit to make it more affordable. Need to sell 3 pieces of equipment before I buy anyways so I'm not ready yet.

Go to yesterdaystractors.com and click on "Hauling Schedule" enter your needs and you will probably get a response. We got our $4000 quote down to $2000 by using this method. Just have to be patient. Ken Sweet

I just shipped a 2008 NH compact wheel loader from New Hampshire to Nebraska last month. 13,000 lbs, 18.5' long and 9' high. Cost was $2345. Most bids were within $100 of each other. Went through U-ship. Multiple bids showed up in a couple of days. Overall, it was a good experience. You are about 2x the distance. I tried "yesterdays tractors" and got 1 response but it was higher than nearly all of the u-ship bids. These guys will try to line up multiple pieces of equipment to pick up and deliver as they go across country. This is how they make it economical. My load took about 4 days to arrive after they picked it up.

This was the first time I bought a major piece of equipment without seeing the machine. Makes one a little nervous. However, it was a 2008 NH compact wheel loader with 180 hours. Had lots of pictures of the machine. Ran the serial number and knew what it had for options, build date ect. The price was $20,000 less than 2 identical machines located locally and $15,000 less than any machine in a 250 mile radius. I bought it from a Ford car dealer of all places. I had to add R134 to the A/C but otherwise the machine has run perfect since I got it. No surprises. It is a blast to operate. Sold my bobcat S300 2 days ago. The wheel loader can use skid steer attachments on the front and I kept my attachments.

Great to know thanks.
That reminds me...How can I run the serial number of a tractor to find out what options it came with? I have emailed a few people asking what options and sometimes they don't even know. It would be much easier if I could just run the SN myself?

It seems you can certainly find a good deal if your willing to go through the shipping process. If I find something within 10 hrs or so of me I would probably pick it up myself, but any further than that and I think it would be so much easier to ship.

Any helpful service department and some parts departments selling major brands can run a serial number and get whatever build information the manufacturer readily supplies. Relative to New Holland machines, I can get a final build date and configuration/options information quite easily on most machines. Downloading the 'variante' list is a near-requirement when ordering parts for any European built NH tractor.

That is how I do it. Local dealers have had no issues in helping me out. I then use them for parts or repairs later if I buy the equipment. Dealer can read you the options and how it is equipped or they can fax/print the info. My NH w80TC wheel loader is a clone of the Case 321E version. No local NH construction dealer but the local Case dealer gave me the number of a sister store in the next state. Called them and they faxed me the 'variante' list (europeon built) of the machine. However, they cannot tell you if there is a loan or lien on the machine.

4 years ago I shipped my tractor via USHIP from Tennessee to Washinton state. $1700.

USHIP is a great way to go because they group your equipment with other gear. Basically they sell you feet on a flatbed trailer, combining other shipments with yours. It takes 2 weeks but it was worth the price savings.

It is also a competitive bid, and many guys have gone one way with a round trip fair so going back is just gravy money to them

Check for insurance, ask for references. The guy I got shipped boats and had an empty flatbed heading from east to west. I guess I shared the ride with a water truck and some sort of camper.

Ultimately you are at the whim of the shipper and it can be nerve wracking. Unless you choose to hall it yourself then you kind of have to bite the bullet.

Thanks to everyone who replied and PM'd about my question, I knew I came to the right place. There are some amazing deals on shipping out there if you time it right and catch an empty truck headed in the right direction!
Thanks again :D
Hopefully one of these days I'll be posting about my new tractor, just as soon as I get the others sold!
