I had a seal replaced on my PT-180 brushcutter and after putting it back together the entire blade assembly came off the spindle. Terry told me he uses Loctite Red to keep the collar on the drive shaft but after two attempts the collar slipped off while doing some mowing chores.
I was on the verge of having the spindle tapped and inserting a bolt to keep the collar on but decided to try Shoe Goo as a last measure. After doing some brush cutting there are no signs of slippage. I will continue to keep a close eye on it but so far it is encouraging.
I suppose Loctite is similar to a very hard paint and may have a tendency to crack whereas Shoe Goo (though very strong) is just flexible enough to ride the vibrations out.
What is so amazing about Shoe Goo is not only will it plug a hole in the bottom of your shoe and make it waterproof, but it will also allow you to build up worn areas of the heel or sole. Some people call it liquid duck tape.
