Over the years it seems to me there is enough collective experience in the TBN frequenters to answer virtually any question/resolve any problem....and often correctly/effectively. ;) Looking for experiential information primarily, but certainly willing to read acquired information. I had a total knee replacement 10 weeks ago. It may or may not be important to know this was 3+ years overdue and the end of my tibia was already worn....I was walking with a cane and a severe limp x 1 year+. Recovering well, all the ligaments/muscles have tightened up nicely to make a stable effective joint. However....my operative leg (R) is clearly longer now than the other....my best guess is 1/2". It is substantial enough that now that I am walking fairly strongly my hips, low back, and left knee hurt from the off-balance much more than they hurt pre-op. Anyone ever encounter this, and if so, did you find anything effective short of custom made footwear? Thanks to all for any help.

It seems as if your rehab is going well. I read your thread, but I strongly suggest that you consult your attending physician and a Podiatrist and abide by their suggestions. Your future well being and functionality should not be compromised or placed in jeopardy just because of the price difference in regards to adequate footwear. If your insurance provider will not assist with the price difference, perhaps there is a local community based facility that offers financial assistance. I am an amputee and I was in rehab with many others that had problems similar to yours. Best of Luck.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I intend to see my podiatrist and chiropractor when I can...but that may be several weeks and I was looking for something in the meantime.
I spoke with the surgeon a couple weeks ago and (bear in mind I think this guy is incredible and I trust him a LOT) and his response was that it is no big deal and my body will adjust. I'm not as convinced of that as he seemed to be. I've reached the point where this imbalance now seems to be the next restricting factor in my continuous improvement plan (previous steps were walking, doing steps, etc.) and I don't want to stop getting more active because of it, but neither do I want the pain it brings. I am hoping someone else here will have encountered this after a TKR and can let me know how they resolved it.

Had both knees and a hip replaced, had a little bit of a problem with one side being 10mm longer then the other side. Doc had a shoe insert made for me and it took care of the problem. That was 2 years ago I no longer need the insert and do not use it. I don't know if I evened out or what, but I don't use them any more. Also more the one Dr. told me the Dr Scholls inserts will do more harm then good. Hope it turns out for you!

I was told that the superfeet insoles were very good by my knee dr. I would also say see if there is a running store near you, they would have some of the better products.
