Shooting Bench

Nice bench!

I might build one for my home range sooner or later. I personally prefer to lay on the ground with a shooting mat I picked up from MidwayUSA. Bipod straps and padded, I shoot better from the prone position than from the bench position. Better breathing control for me, but maybe I'm weird.

When I was living in NM there was a 1500 Meter know distance range. We set up milk jugs at 600 and 800 meters on top of old railroad rails. I hit way more jugs in the prone position than I did from the bench top. While my shooting partners couldn't hit crap from prone but was good on the bench, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Shooting from prone is Very uncomfortable for me.

I learned a few tricks to make it more comfortable, which is why most people can't shoot my rifles, they are set up to me and only me. Lowered scope rings with lower bipods, which puts my body almost flat and not on the point of my elbows. One arm under rifle bracing rear bag, squeeze the bag for small adjustments, control breathing and "Boom" surprise trigger pull every time.

Set-up is everything especially if you plan to shoot anything over 200 yards. 200 yards and in, point and shot, totally different out in the 500+ range, even worse in the 1,000 range of shooting.

Having a good mat makes the world of difference and proper rifle configuration also.
