Hi,

This is my first post and I learned a lot so far from this website!!!

I'm used to working on my own things--cars, trucks, house etc. I went to my local Kubota dealer yesterday to look at my first tractor, the B2920. I asked him about the shop manual--the one they use in the back of the tractor store. He said they have them but they only get people into trouble by fixing their own tractor. I never heard of such a thing. In fact, it looks like it is very easy to work on the B2920 because everything is accessible.

Can someone add more info on DIY repair work on a tractor?

Thanks!!

Jim

Jim,
I would recommend buying a service manual. I don't think there is much you would need to worry about while your 2920 is covered by warranty. As long as you are somewhat mechanically inclined, i'd advise you to do as much of your own maintenance as possible. Its always better to be more intimate with your tractor. That being said, Kubota's reliability is great, and rarely do we see members here having internal breakage where their tractor needs to be split. It would be unusual for you to ever need to get in too deep in repairs.

I, too, work on nearly everything I own (excluding warranty items), and have factory service manuals for my vehicles and tractor. That said, I am at times disappointed with my Kubota manual. Don't know whether my issues are related to translation or cultural differences, but my Kubota WSM is not as useful to me as my GM shop manuals. I often have to refer to the parts book for insight. So...you may want to consider the parts book as a companion reference.

Regarding the dealer "get into trouble" comment, it's true to an extent. Factory manuals are written for factory-trained techs, and can sometimes get the untrained in trouble...:D

Who told you this a Saleman???? ( LOL) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Get the manual and read it, learn it and love it, then do it! My Dealer wishes he could afford to hire me to work in his shop, "JUST DO IT".

Thats a pretty miserable attitude from that dealer. Tractors are usually easier to work on than cars except when you start to get into the areas that require 'heavy lifting'. The parts manuals are extremely handy. Don't have one here for the 2920 but this is an example of the type of thing you should be able to find.

Kubotabooks.com These make most repairs pretty easy. (But just use these as a guide. Dont rely on the accuracy of the part numbers.)

And of course you'll get great help from this forum.

Correction. I should have said SMALL tractors are easier to work on than cars.

Thanks for all the help. I knew it didn't sound right and yes this comment came from the salesman.

I bought a NH T1510 just yesterday and will move over to that forum. But thanks again for all the useful info!

Jim
