On our property is a pole barn with a shop built into one side of it. It was insulated probly about 18 years ago when it was built. I've figured out most of what the previous owner did in here (he was no electrician even though he tried hard, THAT's for sure!) but one thing is driving me crazy - what was this black plastic tubing used for? It runs from the ceilng, where there is a 2ft 2x10 with lag bolts in it that was holding some load, to the side wall where it was cut. There's about a 4" section cut out which I am assuming was for some pump or similar. Then it continues down the wall where it goes outside about 1' height. It is buried (very shallow) and makes a run of about 40' to our pond. At the edge of the pond is a buried green plastic tub with a removable lid that is at ground level. The pipe goes in here, into some valve, then as far as I can tell goes into the pond. About 10' out into the pond is some plastic tub that is turned over that has never moved in the year we've been here, so it's on top of something in the water that I can only assume is attached to that tubing!

Any ideas? Here's a picture that shows what is going on in the garage. There is also a drain on the floor directly below where whatever was mounted in the ceiling used to be. Thanks for helping me figure this out :)

Maybe he pumped water form the pond to the garage for washing cars or the floor?

Maybe he built a home-made pond bubbler? Aerator for a bait tank in the pond? Could have had a small compressor on the 2X10?

Water for the hydroponic pot farm in the garage:p

I'd be guessing he pulled the compressor out. The tube to the pond was for aeration, and to keep the ice from forming. The pipe up above on the 2x10 may have been to a air hose reel to reach the corners of the shop.
Just a WAG.

Is it of plastic that would take 100 psi ? Or lighter weight stuff?

Now I am more intrigued... a pond aerator/bubbler? I will try to snap some pics of the equipment at the pond tomorrow. If that is what it was used for I could hook my compressor up to it this winter so it doesn't freeze. I've never heard of that before, but this is my first pond and I don't know anything about them.

On the opposite idea I had been thinking he pumped water into the pole barn and then up to the top for something. But I wasn't sure if a pump could suction the ~40 distance or so to the pond, + the 5 or 6 feet height increase.

Some type of filtering system in the pond to prevent picking up leaves and such connected to the pipe that runs into the garage to a pump. The pump supplies the water to a radiator hanging from the ceiling and an electric fan blows air through the radiator to cool the shop. What do you think? Does it get hot there where you live?

Maybe it was an old type phone{kind of like the string to a can deal}. Who ever was down at the pond could holler up{through the pipe} and tell when they had enough fish ready for cleaning :)
