Shop Speakers?

I use a sony AV reciever and a pair of old second hand Kenwood speakers, no idea what vintage. Also have an unpowered subwoofer driven by a Dayton mono amplifier.
Had to build a dipole antenna outside the steel building.
The receiver does have Bluetooth input, but since the shop is a steel building my cellphone doesn't work inside it, I am considering getting a Wi-Fi extender to fix that.
My system is built from odds and ends I had on hand, works pretty well.

Mine is in a steel building also. My cell phone has signal inside, but I had to run a coax line through the wall to an outside antenna to get any kind of FM signal.

I use Bluetooth earbuds, which work on the tractor in the field and in the shop. They are pretty good at excluding external noise, but I add muffs on the tractor to keep the volume down, or if I am cutting, grinding and such in the shop. I've thought about noise suppressing headphones, but haven't sprung for the money.

Thank you all for the awesome ideas and suggestions. I really do appreciate it. I thought it was time to update this thread on what I decided, purchased, and installed. To start, this forum was not the only place I asked advise for this. My wife was also involved. Her suggestion was to go with a smart speaker. A bit more expensive that what I wanted, but honestly, cheaper than some of the recommendations listed here.

I poured a ton of research into smart speakers, having never owned one. I needed to know what they were and how it would benefit me over a wired speaker hooked to my old home theater amp.

To start, I don't need to have a home theater amp or wires. My old theater amp does have Bluetooth connectivity so I could stream Spotify to it from my phone, but if I wanted to walk out of the shop for a few minutes, or to the other end of my shop, it would lose connectivity. FM radio is also possible, but honestly, who likes to listen to ads while working? I could hook up an old laptop or mp3 player perhaps, and that was the direction I was going, until my wife's suggestion.

A smart speaker, hooked to my wifi (I do have strong wifi in my shop) does not need anything but power and a shelf to sit on. Ok, it does need a bit more, namely access to an app on my phone, but thats really only for initial setup. They can also alert me to different things like when someone opens my driveway gate, or when dinner is ready. I know when someone comes over, expected or not, such as deliveries. The gate opens and the speakers make a chime sound. I know then to go greet whoever it is. Or my wife can send me a message telling me dinner is about to be ready. Call me all sorts of names you wish, just not late to dinner. But most importantly, it streams music without the need of my phone.

After doing a bunch of research, I decided to take advantage of a Black Friday deal and get two Nest Audio speakers.

I paid $175 for two speakers. One of the things that pushed me towards these speakers is how they link to each other, making them stereo. I placed one on either side of the shop, facing each other. The sound is quite good! When turned up, I can hear them over my air compressor. The little shelf they sit on is from amazon.

I use my voice to control them. Simply tell the speakers to start playing music, and without my phone even in the shop, they play. I often tell the speakers to set an alarm for whatever time I need to leave the shop, then start playing music. When its time to head inside to shower, to make that doctors appointment in time, the speakers let me know without looking at a clock. Lets me focus on the project I'm working on.

After having these up for about a week now, I can say, I think I made the correct choice. I'm not overly concerned that Google is listening to my shop conversations. I mean, my phone does that anyway, and if Google really wants to listen to that chatter, its their loss!

Again, thank you to all who have provided their input. I really do appreciate it.

Every shop needs music. Listening to music, a talk show, or podcast is very welcome. Go into any department store, elevator, or rural shop and you hear music, unless that shop is mine.

As many of you undoubtedly know, I recently moved. Our new home boasts a large shop! I've done some projects in there as needed, but mostly, its been storage as we unpack and settle into our new home. Winter is the time to work in the shop, unpack and organize everything. Well, winter is pretty much here, and my shop, while awesome, is very quiet. Last night I decided to dig out my sound system and set up my amp and speakers, to get some music going while I work. But unfortunately, the speakers didn't make it. I think they got thrown away, one was blown anyway. Off to amazon we go!

Amazon has a wide selection of speakers to choose from. I don't know what speakers to get. I know that many people, myself included, get their speakers from second hand places like yard sales, facebook, or craigslist. I looked, but actually couldn't find any! And no yard sales this time of year.

I'm not looking to make the windows rattle in the shop, but I would like to fill the quiet with some music fix my speaker water. I would prefer the speakers be wall mounted, up out of the way, and powerful enough to hear the music clearly. What is your recommendation on shop speakers?
Klipsch R-41PM, Edifier R1280DB, JBL Control 1 Pro, and Pyle PDWR62BT are great wall-mountable options. If you have an amp, passive speakers like the JBLs work well; otherwise, powered speakers like the Klipsch or Edifier keep things simple.

A few years back, I was looking for a portable good-sounding "boom-box" and was all set to get a Bose Wave radio/cd. The local dealer recommended instead the Yamaha TSX-140, which had not only CD support, but USB and DAB+ radio. Great sound, and did me well for years. Then the CD started getting erratic with accepting discs, but the digital radio (DAB+) was fantastic, with an external antenna to receive stations from 60/70 miles away.

So I looked around for another one, and tracked one down at a pawn shop in the US, going for a song. Even with freight, it was a steal, and plays CDs no problem. It doesn't have DAB+ (only FM) but gives me a choice of music, depending on which area of the shop I'm in. As I said, sound quality is amazing, but then Yamaha is renown for this.
