The vacuum draws air in from whatever is removed, be it the filter or the drain plug or the pick up screen.

I doubt it is pulling air through the filter hole, and through the oil.

Most likely pulling air in the vent hole. Creates just enough vacuum to do the trick

I plan to try this when I am ready for my 50 hour. Whereabouts is the breather vent tube?

Yep, usually under the seat or just behind/below the seat. If you forget to plug it, it will whistle like a tea pot as the hydraulic fluid rushes out.... Kind of like a dummy alarm. Don't ask me how I know....

On my Kioti it shoots the dipstick out of its hole. Don't ask how I know that either
