SHORTER LOWER ARMS??

I've read here that the PAT'S EASY CHANGE system lengthens the lower arms by about 4", which may cause PTO shaft to be short. I guess it's cheaper to get longer PTO shaft than to replace lower arms with shorter ones. Anyone know what shorter lower arms might cost for replacement??

I'm pretty sure that 4" figure you read would have been one of the larger PEC sizes. I think the Cat 1 is closer to 2.5", so you might want to recheck your numbers before spending money unnecessarily

I don't doubt you measured 4" someplace Roy. But my Cat 2 PEC measures 4" from the center of the swivel ball pin to the center of the implement lift pin. So if a Cat 2 is extended 4", it stands to reason that a Cat 1 would be less than 4" - by virtue of the smaller Cat 1 hook size and lift pin diameter.

That said, I've never actually measured a Cat 1 myself - I'm just repeating that 2-3/4" measurement posted by another Cat 1 PEC owner last year. Perhaps there's been a design change at Greenwell since that measurement, and/or since my Cat 2 was purchased.

I believe they use the same forging for both Cat 1 and Cat 2...just the hole sizes are different (Cat 2 has a bigger hole diameter).

All I can say is the distance from the ball (on the lower link) hole to the center of the lifting lug on my Cat 1 PEC is 4".

It would be the same since we're measuring Center to Center.
Going from Category one to a Category 2 would only require opening the attach hole ¼ (1/8th per side). As far as the measurement...take a look at the attached picture. Using your hand, you can estimate the distance from the center of the pin hole to the center of the implement lug. Just use the pin hole (7/8th's) or the hand as a size reference. You won't get the distance to the nearest .001", but you'll do pretty good
Note that the width of the slot of the implement lug is considerably wider the the hole diameter. The basic weldment (I was mistaken on calling this forging in my first post) is quite robust and is probably used for both categories.
But, call Pat's if you'd like...let us know what you find out.

Thank you sir. The old gray cells ain't quite what they used to be. So I may have jumbled the numbers from that previous post I cited; that is, quoting 2.5" for Cat 1 when it is by your word 3.5"

I've accumulated more implements lately than I have lynch pin washers, and could use several for both Cat 1 and Cat 2 pins. Are they a stock replacement item?

When I bought Pat's system I did not know the difference between Cat I and Cat II. I ordered from Pat's add above but about 1-1/2 years ago. When I got them they barely fit (but they did) the big drag links on the 55 hp Kama. I had to file the ball swivels on the drag links (width wise) so Pat's would fit over them. I pounded them on. In using them, they must have been Cat I because those implement's lift pins fit.

But when I put on my Cat II boxblade, the pins fit the cast hook perfectly, however, the rotating locking cam would not close over the larger diameter Cat II pins. After measuring the interference, I took Pat's system apart and ground the same arc until it barely cleared the Cat II pins. I mean they fit perfectly. I was worried about whether it would hold up or not, but you can't believe how they've held up. You guys know I do a lot of bull dozing in reverse with the boxblade, tilting and moving in all kinds of directions under stall out loads. If they were going to pop out, that's how you would test it. The lift pins have NEVER popped out of Pat's system. Mine (Cat I) puts the implement back less than 4", like Pat said, 3-1/2" or so.

Just thought I'd share that story Pat, so when a newbie orders, you guys might want to make him aware of the different models available. I did not know, nor was I aware of the difference when I bought from you. I'm not saying it's your responsiblity, of course, just saying I was dumb about it at the time and wished I knew the difference. I would have bought the Cat II then.

If you haven't done so already, you should have a pair of Cat2/1 lift pin adapters in the swivel balls. That will take up the slack between the Cat 1 PEC pin and your Cat 2 KAMA swivel balls.

Ouch. Hopefully you haven't egged out the swivel ball holes by now. They're replaceable, but it's a pain.
