PARs is nothing new to the industry, Actually other brands are trying to take it to even higher levels. Cat Construction the dealers own the territory. If another dealer sells outside his assigned territory they are required to pay the other dealer who's territory they sell into a % of the value of the machine. It's not like that in the tractor industry yet but some brands are working towards one dealer owning territories they are responsible for.
If you purchased from me and your neighbor purchased out of the area from another dealer and you both brought your tractors in for warranty at the same time...who should get service first? You supported the dealership and he did not. Is it fair to the customer that support the dealership with Sales and Service Business? Just today I had a customer from Illinois I refused to sell a new tractor too because he needs to purchase from his local dealer not me to he can get service first if the need arises. I'm not going to put my customers second that support me with the sale and service business.
I fully understand customers moving into regions and bringing equipment with them. That's different then shopping for the lowest price and bypassing your local dealer to make a purchase ( As mentioned before there are circumstances I've sent customers to purchase from other dealers - discontinued model a dealer will not transfer or Demo or Rental Return I cannot transfer). I guarantee I'm not the cheapest dealer I just want to offer the Best Value: Sales, Service and Parts Support it's more than a sale to us it's a partnership...like joining the family. Guess that's why we don't have many customers shop away from our dealership. But as an Independent Dealer I'm going to service my customers first. That's why I will never quote a sales price on a public forum...you need to purchase from your local dealer. If your expecting service from your local dealer from a purchase elsewhere I would make sure to discuss this prior to purchase to make sure...I'm not the only dealers that believes their customers should be first.
