Should I be upset at my local dealer?

I had a problem with my steering cylinder. My dealer and I determined that I would need to buy a replacement kit that included o-rings and maybe some valves. It was $100. I ordered the replacement kit this morning.

After I ordered the parts, my Dad took the cylinder apart and discovered the o-rings were bad. His neighbor has tons of some spare rings and replaced them. I called Kubota back at lunch to cancel the order. They told me they can't cancel the order that it has already went through. They did not ask for any payment when I asked them to place the order.

Should I put up a fuss or just pay for the parts? Anyone want to comment?

Sounds unreasonable to me.

At the most I would be willing to pay a re-stocking fee. Having you pay for the whole thing is definitely unreasonable.

They told me a re-stocking fee was not an option.

I will have to ask why, I was in a hurry and did not have time to argue.

Boogerman, your vote doesn't count....we know you're not too happy with any dealers right now!:D :D

Scott, if you did not pay and did not give them a credit card number and you are absolutely sure that they did not say anything about all orders/sales being final then I would say you are under no obligation to pay them and I wouldn't. It may sour the relationship....but if they are playing ball like that then it's already soured.

Now, if they told you up front that the order was final once it is made, then you should swallow the cost. Whether you do business with them again would be up to you of course.

Have they just shipped the parts to your dealer? or to you directly?

If to your dealer, then I would expect a reasonable dealer to not charge you for anything and either just keep the parts or send them back. Thats even if there is in practise technically a re-stocking fee. It's little things like that that build relationships between customers and dealers and vice versa.

I don't deal with the dealer I purchase from anymore. I drove to another dealer that I deal with now for parts one day to buy a little 30 cent plug and the dealership had just closed and the guys were pretty much locked up. He opened the parts counter for me and they had the plug in stock. It would have been easy for them to say "Come back Monday"... but he did not. The next time I buy a tractor guess where I'm buying from? It wont' matter if it is a few $ more than the lowest quote I can get.

That said - don't burn your bridges either. I'd walk in, in person, and explain the situation to them and see how they respond.

I can't see how from morning to noon, the items had even been shipped. I'd call back or better, if you can, go in in person. Speak to the manager. It may be a situation where an employee needs to be brought to the attention of the manager or owner. If it cannot be corrected, they've made a poor decision on how to treat customers.
