Should I buy a Bx 2230?

I used to live on a farm and the farm came with a Farmall Super A. I restored it, put a 5 foot Woods belly mower on it and used it for ten years.

We moved. We have 5 acres, about 3 3 1/2 to mow, horses, all kinds of yard work and a little over a quarter mile of driveway to remove snow from.

My land is hilly and the farmall has a high center of gravity. After almost rolling it, I've decided on a new tractor.

I can get a bx1500 with FEL and 54" mower for $10,600. They also have a BX2230 for $12,400.

Do I need to spend the extra $ for the added horses and 6 inches on the mower, or will I be happy and satisfied with the 1500?

They also have a commercially used woods 0 turn radius mower with a kubota engine, snowblower and sweeper for 4k, but it has 2,300 hours on it, and was used commercially.

I have kids now and don't need a project, but the price is right.

What do you guys think?

I have a BX1500 and it works fine for me. It has plenty of power for a 4 ft snow blower and 5 ft scraper blade. I got the 48 inch mower but I haven't had to use it yet so I can't comment on that. I'm extremely happy with the little tractor though.

I will be doing some pretty heavy mowing, so I'm concerned about 15 horses being enough. The other thing is I plan on plowing out the lane with a scraper on the 3 point hitch up to about 6 inches and if it's more than 6 inches, I'll use the loader. Is this realistic, or will I need a snowblower?

I purchased the BX2200 and love it. Haven't mowed with my MMM yet, but used the loader and tiller a lot. My property is not as big as yours, but I'd go with the tractor which will give you more versatility than a dedicated mower.

The extra power if you are doing blade work or loader work might warrant the extra $$$$$.

Best wishes,
Ron

Have you looked into other brands?

I've looked at other brands. It seems that a Deere x400 or x500 series would cost me more and be less of a tractor. The 2210 doesn't seem as well built to me. I like the Kubota's compactness and solidity.

If you have alternate suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Once I buy it's too late.

I have a 2200 and it is a gem. I have the fel, KK 48 tiller, KK 60 yard rake, and a middle buster. Have never seen something this tractor would not do, as long as I am reasonable with it. I also have the 60 MMM, it is very effecient, quiet running, easy to use and maintain. I would definetly go for the bigger with your acreage and uses. I only have an acre, but would have been disappointed with anything less.

I also looked at other c o l o r s and the price, quality, dealer, combination made Orange right for me. The others were fine, but orange made more sense. Also the 0% let me keep lots of cash, and unlike my car the tractor will still be worth something when it is paid for /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

going for a PHD tomorrow at my local dealer, and for Pats this weekend also.

thanks

RonR has a very good point. I mow my lawn with a lawn tractor and focused more on FEL/BH power and ground clearance when I bought my Kioti tractor.

You've come to the right place though, so take your time and research all you can.

I have a BX2200 and one of the reasons I brought it was the low center of gravity. My lot is part steep hill. At the time I was looking at the JD4010 as well but felt the BX would be safer on my hill.

I cut my grass with a Toro314-H. It is a 14 HP garden tractor with a 42 inch mulch only deck. I have never had any trouble with power. Even when trying to cut tall grass.

I think the idea that you need high HP to cut grass is a marketing tool. Back in the 60's there were lots of 10hp riding mowers. But now since the marters have used hp as the bench mark everyone must play along.

Take Deere for example. At the dealer they sell a GT235 garden tractor for $5,149. It is tough as nails and has 18 hp. Then go to HD and there is a Deere LT130 for $2499 but it has 23 hp. Because in the consumer market hp sells.

Okay sorry for the rant. My point was that the BX1500 should have no problems cutting grass.

Danny,
Let us know how you like the place at Pats, I assume you're picking them up. You can stop at TSC and Shewmakers on the way.
Years ago did you ever do business at the Texaco on the corner of Cooper Chapel and Maple RD. I used to work there and a customer with your name came in there.
