Hi! Solenoid is between battery and starter. it connect battery to starter. On L model at right gas cap they are a square black panel with model and serial number. as on your last pict no 2. but on your tractor this panel is missing. May be the hood is not the original (not sure). But this engine is a 7.6 Gravely. By the head small spark plug. I think 7.6 Gravely engine start in 1966 until 1982. After and some years before also they have Kohler engines.
Personal I prefer buy a running tractor. You can try . With not running engine you dont know what you are buying. You take chance. Good luck! Oldmech

Ok thanks that defiantly helps me a lot. Now with that being said my gas tank has nothing on iris there an alternative place I can look?also how do I test a Magnito or do I just stick it in a box and send it to Richards? Thanks

I believe you're looking at an L8. The serial # is probably attached to the side of the advance casting, on the left in front of the wheel. As oldmech said, unless you can hear it run, you're buying a pig in a poke.

Then again, the price is right IMO for an L8, as they have the gearing of an L, LS, & LI all rolled into one (more or less). And there are steps you can take to make a best guess as to whether the engine is shot. Feel for compression by turning over by hand....pull the head and look at the cylinder. The fact that there is no air cleaner on it is a pink flag. It doesn't take much to make a Gravely run even if it's been sitting for 20 yrs! Fuel, air, spark, boom...so I'd sure try to clean those points to see if she'll run.

Parts are quite plentiful, jugs (cylinders) less so, but still available for a price.
Also, this one has the preferred 106 mower on it...and a govenor.
oldgravelys.net has many manuals and loads of info for the intrepid person.

Caution: Gravely Acquistion Syndrome [GAS] is an undeniable yet mysterious thing.

That's a Model C8. It's the last version of the gravely L tractors. It's a 7.6hp Gravely T head engine.

If you look at the advance casting, that's up front where the attachment connects to, on the operators left side, toward the bottom, there should be a small metal plate with a serial number. If you find that, we can date it.

Ok hey guys just got back and picketed up the gravely today! So I pressure washed it Ann's it looks great. So the next things is the Magnito to get it off I had to take the duals of and then the bolt twists forever why? Also how do I do the timing correctly also I found the vin and it's a 1974 model so thanks
