Dirt,

Thanks for the diagram. I reviewed my wheel position after I did the post, and I am not at the most narrow. The deep dish of the wheel is toward the inside but the bolts are on the inner portion, meaning theoretically that I would have one more narrow position, with the tractor being approximately one inch more narrow on each side. Now THAT would be too narrow. As it stands, my rear tires are about one inch out from the rear fenders, which is a good width right now. It looks to me that I could invert the wheels and probably add about two more inches to each side, so my local dealer has said he would do that for me tomorrow and I could see how it seemed. My tractor currently is about 54" wide between sidewalls. Surprisingly, I cannot tell that the tractor is any less stable than before with the R4 tires. In fact, I am not so sure that the taller tire does not offset some of the loss from the more narrow width. In addition, it is really not that much more narrow, as the tractor was only 3" wider with the R4 tires. I have not been on some of my steeper hills yet, but on my drive, which is plenty steep, the tractor feels pretty stable.

I was thinking of this thread yesterday while I was slopping around in the muck. The ground was 1/2 frozen when I started but as it warmed up I was wollering in about 6 inches of mud.:( It took me so long to maneuver around that I couldn't get much done so I just quit.

I came to the conclusion that R4's suck. I'll have to invest in chains or swap out for R1's.

FYI, I called a local dealer. An extra set of R1 tires and new rims would cost $1100. I doubt I would be willing to get another set of tires, but my 3720 does have more power than traction in most conditions.

I'm seriously considering ordering a set of R1's and rims for my tractor and doing the Spring/Fall swap with the turf tires I currently have.

Did that $1,100 quote include the front wheels/tires as well? Thanks.

By the way, I prefer the looks of a tractor with R1's. A tractor with R4's reminds me of "construction equipment". Just my 2 cents.

But the real kicker for me in the R4 vs R1 debate is being able to do more ground work i.e. rototilling, pulling a scarifier and box blade without having to be in 4x4 all the time.

And crawling around in the woods digging up stumps without having to wear chains all summer...

Good discussion, though. All vantage points.

The quote was for 4 tire and 4 rims. I actually thought it would be considerably higher.

Question for Dirtworks; Where did you get the spacers? I like my R-4's, they work good in our rocky soil, and they don't tear up the yard. I just wish they had a wider stance for side hill work.

Thanks Dirtworks! They look like excellent quality!
