Buying Advice Should I have dealer install loader hydraullics for grapple on new tractor?

Hello,

Another question for the experts here at TractorByNet.

I'm very close to ordering a L2501 with FEL and BH. I'm starting to wonder if I should go ahead and have dealer install the 3rd function hydraulic line on the loader. I'm considering purchasing a grapple and would also need the 3rd function for a bale collector I plan to get in a couple years.

Is the 3rd function hydraulic device a Kubota part or some 3rd part add-on? I want quality components and not familiar with the 3rd function accessories on Kubota loaders. For example where is control for function, how are hydraulic lines attached, etc, etc. Am I better off installing myself so it's done right? I have no problems installing it if I have a manual to reference.

Since you also have a L3830, I would put the 3rd function on it before the L2501. Or perhaps it is already equipped?

When we bought our Deere, I simply had them supply the (loader remote) kit, and put it on myself. I am sure I did a better job. You also learn a little about your tractor in the process.

Plenty of good threads on this topic... seems like you can do it yourself and save substantial money. I haven't done it, but based on some of the threads, it isn't too hard. Kubota's kits come with directions, written by English as a first language types.

The kits from Kubota are fairly simple to install, however when I suggested they supply the parts and I would install them myself they said if anything happened I'd have no warranty. I believe this is just a pitch trying to keep their guys in the shop busy, but they did reduce the labour costs to the point where I said go ahead and do it.

I did end up installing the rear remotes on my B2650 myself because Kubota didn't have a kit available at the time to have the valves below the seat rather than on the rops.

As mentioned in an above post, it's nice to do installs yourself so that you get to see how things are assembled on your tractor. You can also take your time and ensure it is up to your standards, some techs seem to do sloppy work and don't take the extra time to make things look and fit as good as they could.

It just about kills me when hydraulic hoses arn't run in perfect parallel fashion, using a ruller to equally space tye raps, and then cutting them off flush, without razor sharp protrusions. Way too much to ask from an hourly paid employee.

No it does not have 3rd function either. Actually I would like to put on both tractors. I need to talk with my dealer. I need to scour the Internet and see what a good install looks like.

I really want to install OEM rear remotes on the L3830 too.

I had the Kubota dealer instal the third function kit. The reasons - if I installed it myself there would be no warrantee, I didn't have the time or the knowledge and they reduced the labor costs to the point where it simply wasn't a major item. I also bought a Land Pride grapple, from then, at the same time.

ProjectKing, 3rd service is a good idea. The best time is when you are getting a tractor. Weather you DIY, or dealer install is your decision. The other main thing you need to consider is , will you use a full 3rd service hydraulic circut,( 3 separate levers, or a 4in1 stick(lift and curl) with a 3rd service on a 2nd stick) or will you use a changeover valve on the curl circut, (4in1 stick with a switch for 3rd service). If you opt for the changeover valve then MAKE SURE the changeover button is COMFORTABLE, both at first(34 round bales on truck) AND later(5 paddocks and 350 rounds later). Large buttons and a soft spring are best combination. There are different choices of joystick head availible, and some will fit your hand better than others.
I understand that you are not a commercial tractor man , but uncomfortable ergonomics will sour your new tractor quickly.
