Just got a b3030 not so long ago. Love it, its a great tractor. But I bought too small, as I was half sure I was doing at the time. So I have an order in for one of the new L4740s - was thinking the 34, which was what I was originally torn between, but I don't want to buy too small again.

So the question is what to do with the b3030? Its a great tractor, and I hate taking the loss on selling it. I had some customization done, like a 12v outlet, worklights, and upgraded seat, which I am unlikely to see much money back out of. So that makes selling painful. But on the other hand, much as I like the idea of 2 tractors, tough to really argue that I need them. And I'm not in love with the idea of doing twice the tractor maintenance.

Since people here so often have really good advice, I thought I'd throw it out to you lot, and see if anyone has any suggestions. One thought is to put it out there for sale at a fair (to me) price, and if no one takes it, consider that as fate meaning for me to have to tractors - the idea of leaving certain attachments permanently mounted has a lot of appeal.

If you sell you will take a big hit, usually. Also you have a lot of implements that most likely will be too small for the 4740. So then you take yet another hit on many of those.

If you can afford it keep both as he who dies with the most toys wins.

Just out of curiosity... why is it too small? How many hours are on it?

Yeah, I can afford it - the question is whether I can justify it, to myself, and to my girlfriend. Luckily she's only a girlfriend - they require a lot fewer justifications than wives do, it seems :p

Probably around 40 hours or so. Its actually quite big for a small tractor, and continues to grow bigger, but I'm doing a bunch of major landscaping - cutting down forest and reshaping, and a bigger tractor would be useful. Especially a stronger loader. For mowing/brush cutting etc the b3030 has been great. I really am not knocking it as a tractor, I love it, I just should have bought a bigger one.

You have a wonderful tractor in the B3030. I would get all my "Big" tractor chores lined up and rent a machine for a week or two to knock all that stuff out. After that's done your 3030 will be all the tractor you'll ever need. Just about the perfect size for 5-10 acres.

Charles,

When I bought my L-3710 for some reason I felt compelled to get ride of my old B-6000. I have been kicking myself ever since. If you have the room.... keep it.

What NewToy says makes a lot of sense to me.

True on the tractor, and not a bad idea, but it won't work for me I fear. I've got more in the way of months, if not years, work for the heavy machine. And renting them around here is $100 an hour, which becomes prohibitive pretty quickly.

Now that's the sort of justification I need to here :D It is the way I'm tempted, I'm just wondering if that's utterly silly. The b3030 is a great tractor, so I hesitate to let it go.
