Should I use this for water storage?

I can fit 2 in the bed of a fullzide pickup. That will let me haul 550gal. At $100 each, I'll happy if it last a year.

That would be 4400 lbs of water in the bed of your pickup, plus the weight of the containers.

I doubt your pickup will last a year at that loading.

Be sure they are clean to start. Add 2 oz. of bleach for each 55 gal of water you put in. This will kill off anything in the water and prevent a lot of undesirable growth.

I would drink bottled water, and use this for washing, etc.

Yeah ... make sure ya lash them down real well ... they will be sitting kinda high.

That would be 8800 lbs with two, wouldn't it? I was thinking the same thing, too heavy for a pickup.

No, a gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds, X 275 X 2 = 4587 plus the weight of the containers themselves. Still a good load for a PU.

I like the idea but I suspect my wife would have fits about it. It did trigger the thought about possibly finding an old military water trailer. There is a place a few miles south of us toward Houston that has some old military trailers and such sitting around in a field including a battle tank. May be there is a tank trailer there?

Well, I bought 2. I guess I can only carry 1 at a time on the pickup bed when loaded. I found some more info here:

Intermediate bulk containers IBC's - Snyder Industries

According to this manufacturer, they are re-usable and had been in service for over 20 years. It seem to hold up pretty well. I really like the cage design that can be pickup with a fork lift. This could motivate me to build a trailer...:D

I have been using them for the last 10 years at my cabin one catching rain water to flush tolit one on ground plumbed in to cabin pitcher pump one on trailer to go to spring for water. we carry drinking water from home.
picture attached of all three.

I am in process of having well pounded this is their 6 week working on it down 453 ft as of last friday and still no water only about 1400 more to get to sea level i hope they don't have to go that far.

Wow, Stumpfield. Great deal on those containers. Wish I'd found them before I spent $500 on a 150 gal container made for carrying in a pickup. Our well doesn't produce enough during summer "swamp cooler" months and I haul maybe 5 to 10 loads per year from our office.

I have a 3/4 ton pickup and that 150 gal container when full is 3/4 ton. I could have ordered larger but if I was carrying a ton and a half and was involved in a serious accident, I imagine a sharp lawyer could use that fact against me even if the accident wouldn't have been my fault.

Just something I considered, and remembered when you first mentioned carrying two of those both loaded. Even one would be heavy, but much better on your vehicle and less a problem in an unexpected situation. Also, with a couple of tons of water in the back and the need for a quick stop, you might have some regrets.

How's the barn coming? (I haven't gone fully down the thread list yet).

Hey Phil, The guy I bought these containers still have a few more available. I bought 2 so he gave me a discount at $90 a piece. He happens to live only a few blocks away from my dad's house in the Los Angeles area. He even deliever for free and put them in my dad's garage. What a nice guy! I'll bring them up north when I go visit my dad next time. If anyone interested in getting one, PM me. I'll send you his email & phone number.

I'm getting water from my neighbors about 2 miles away on private road. I'll overload a little if I have to.

The barn is coming along very slowly. Just finished digging the footings for the foundation and got the septic system installed.

Tom,
Do you have any pictures of the barn build process yet? I'd like to see them. LOL...I figure there's a real good chance my barn will end up looking exactly like yours...:D :) (since you gave me your plans)
