Okay, rookie here with less than 4 hours seat time and no previous expierence with a hydro trans. machine except mower. Yesterday I hooked a chain to a 4" ornamental eyesore of a tree on a mound in my front yard and to fixed drawbar on tractor. I put the tractor in low range 4wd and eased into attempting to pull this tree out, throttle at 2400 rpm and slowly eased onto hydro pedal. I would have thought "note: THOUGHT" that wheels would have spun before loss of power occured. Is this normal or do I have this all wrong. My little Husqvarna 15 horse gas mower seems to have more power on the pull side of the spectrum. After the tc21d would not pull tree out I turned around and pushed it over with fel with little effort. Also my rear yard is about a 15 degee hill once 914a mmm is engaged there is not enough power
to get up hill without engine lug. This is without cutting grass yet with grass I assume this machine will stall. Again my little Husqvarna doesn't bat an eyelash at this task. Am I missing something???

I think your tires should have spun before having the engine begin to stall. I have a BX24 That has no problem spinning the tires when pulling or pushing. I live on a mountain and have a fairly steep yard and cut my grass uphill without a blink-in low range. Rarely use high. Once started to plow in high, and quickly after bogging the engine put it in low. Not once bogged it in low. Is it possible you started comming off the seat to look behind you while pushing on the throttle. Been there and done that. Athough I like having a safety there I've thought about bypassing it once or twice.
Just looked up your tractor online. Try 2600 rpm (engine rpm rating).

It sounds like it isn't really in a low gear. Sounds like it is in a high gear for some reason. Or if it is starving for fuel? Like the air cleaner is clogged?

You should have been at PTO rpm. Then we would know it wasn't due to lack of fuel.

2400 rpm is pto rpm on this machine. I was absolutely in low gear.

You mentioned that you have no experience with hydro trans, so I'll try to explain hydro operation. The hydro pedal does not work like a gas pedal because it's a transmission pedal. If you want pulling power go slow. If you press the pedal down too far it's like trying to pull in too high a gear. You will bog.
I hope I explained that well enough and I hope it helps.

No black smoke or white smoke? I just have a hard time thinking that the tranny isn't hanging up or it's not breathing right

No black smoke. Machine idles and throttles as it should, however under any load gross power loss occurs.

I would think that tractor if things were working right you would not even slow down pulling that shrub out. I pulled a 800 lb log out of the woods through brush and every thing with my tractor and didn't notice any difference.

I know this is a stupid question but I have to ask. Is the parking brake set?
