I do think that givig employees who drive a Ford Product Piority Parking is a good idea. They did that at American Motors in Kenosha, and it was great. All the company is saying, is "If you are loyal to us, here is a nice perk" If you want to drive a Chevy, that is your choice, but park across the street.
About the Japanese business model of no personal rewards, only the team is ever rewarded, I can't say as I would ever like to work in that environment. Actually I do believe that this is an Asian cultural mentality (I know mentality is not the right word but I can't think of the PC word right now). I recall reading a My Turn Column in Newsweek by an American (I think he was Asian American), who was transferred to Singapore. He put his son in a local school and the teacher criticized the son to his parents because he raised his hand so much in class. He was to eager. Their mores are that no one should ever stand out.
With my former employers I always delivered above and beyond the job or task and got really big bonuses. Team work is great, I have no problem working in a team. But when it comes down to crunch time, and I pull all nighters and week-ends, when it came time for Reward and Recognition my Teammates never gave as much effort and results as I did, so why should the whole team split the Reward and Recognition?
That I think is the difference between the Asian model and the Western European/American model. Nobody ever stands out in Asian culture and in the Western EuropeanAmerican culture we push ourselves and our children to be the Best, not just part of the group, to be leaders, not followers.
The American family in Singapore, took their son out of the local school and put him in a Western School.
I never worked for a Bad company a company that I wasn't 100% loayal to. I can't imagine driving any other car other than Ford if I worked at Ford. I think Ford should reward their loyal employees who patronize the brand, there is 'nuttin wrong with that!
