</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Am I the only one that thinks that car sucks for looks? They were trying to bring back the glory years of the 67-69 and that's the best design they could come up with? Next to the Boss 302 or the Cobra 69 the 69 RS/SS is my favorite car. That car does no justice to those vintage cars at all in my opinion. )</font>

The new remakes are for the new generation of drivers. There will never be another 57 Chevy, 68 GTO, etc. and those folks won't even know what they missed. Just like that stuff they call music today. What? {{{BOOM BOOM BOOM}}} /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You said it. Those cars of old will never be again, and the new ones while fine cars will never hold the nastalgia that thier predecessors have.........at least not with those of us that grew up wishing we could have one.

Discrimination, not really, unless getting a break on your fees at the bank for "over 50" is also discrimination, or any other break for being in a certain group or part of society. As I approach 50 I look forward to having some of the perks. I already have a handicap parking permit due to my having to wear braces, but dont use it all the time. I really get annoyed when someone pulls in and puts one of those temporary tags on the mirror.............get a plate or dont get a temp tag. Is it discrimination that I get to park close?

These rewards lead to persuasion, and persuasion will eventually lead to demands. demands will then lead to Oppression.
Don't think it is a big deal? ask the good fellows that lived in Germany in 1939 if it was a big deal . they didn't bother to stand up to the little things either,,,,, until it was too late. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That word gets used a lot, and usually means "unfair" discrimination. As to what is "unfair", well, it depends on whether it helps or hurts you. Wherever you work, I'll bet they "discriminate" in deciding who to hire and who not to hire. Is that fair? And I'll bet they do the same in deciding who to promote and who not to. Is that fair? The ones hired and/or promoted probably think so; the ones passed over probably do not.

So Ford makes a certain class of people park across the street; that class being those who do not drive Ford products. So I guess those who take pride in their product and drive one of them think it's fair and those who do not take pride in their product and company think it's not. I didn't see or hear anything about Ford requiring them to buy a new Ford.

For several years on my jobs, I had to park a minimum of two city blocks from where I went to work, and had to pay to park even there. Then when I became a captain in the police department, all captains and above in rank were required to be instantly available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so they were assigned "take home" cars if they lived within a 25 mile radius of the Dallas City Hall. I lived within 16 miles of city hall, but in a suburban city, partly because homes were cheaper, but mostly because I didn't want my two little girls bussed across town to school; we wanted to live close to the school they attended. Then after a couple of years, they changed the rule; had to live in the city to drive a city car home, so I had to buy another car to drive to work. Was that "fair"? I guess those who already lived in the city thought so. Sure wish I'd only been "discriminated" against as much as those Ford employees who have to park across the street. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I made many visit to that plant. Since I was a Field Tech with tools. I was able to drive almost up to the machines.
The parking has always been a problem. Parking for the assembly plant was always across the street. There were a certain number of parking spots closer to the plant. But this is still a distance from plant. The people that park across the street have a shuttle bus that transports them to the plant. In my opinion the people that park in the Ford Only lot have to walk further than the Any Brand lot. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I do think that givig employees who drive a Ford Product Piority Parking is a good idea. They did that at American Motors in Kenosha, and it was great. All the company is saying, is "If you are loyal to us, here is a nice perk" If you want to drive a Chevy, that is your choice, but park across the street.

About the Japanese business model of no personal rewards, only the team is ever rewarded, I can't say as I would ever like to work in that environment. Actually I do believe that this is an Asian cultural mentality (I know mentality is not the right word but I can't think of the PC word right now). I recall reading a My Turn Column in Newsweek by an American (I think he was Asian American), who was transferred to Singapore. He put his son in a local school and the teacher criticized the son to his parents because he raised his hand so much in class. He was to eager. Their mores are that no one should ever stand out.

With my former employers I always delivered above and beyond the job or task and got really big bonuses. Team work is great, I have no problem working in a team. But when it comes down to crunch time, and I pull all nighters and week-ends, when it came time for Reward and Recognition my Teammates never gave as much effort and results as I did, so why should the whole team split the Reward and Recognition?

That I think is the difference between the Asian model and the Western European/American model. Nobody ever stands out in Asian culture and in the Western EuropeanAmerican culture we push ourselves and our children to be the Best, not just part of the group, to be leaders, not followers.

The American family in Singapore, took their son out of the local school and put him in a Western School.

I never worked for a Bad company a company that I wasn't 100% loayal to. I can't imagine driving any other car other than Ford if I worked at Ford. I think Ford should reward their loyal employees who patronize the brand, there is 'nuttin wrong with that!

Were getting more miles out of this thread than I ever got out of a Ford or Chevy. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't suppose you noticed that the manufacturing plant in Alabama was under construction. My guess is, once completed they will need employees other than "bean counters".
