Show Your Version of Hatchet/Axe

I needed a new hatchet for splitting fat lighter...
Didn't want to buy new, so I went to work restoring a small axe into my version of a hatchet..
I chose a piece of dried white/water oak from wood stack.
Used a sanding disc to form.
Derusted and painted (small)axe head
(It's been laying around for yrs)
Cured paint..winter time
Secured axe head mechanically and by epoxy
Finished with a burn and a coat of flex seal clear.

That came out nice it looks a lot like what surveyors and grade checkers used back when I was working in heavy construction.

Your axe handle look fantastic, compared to what I could turn out. But...

My Grandfather was a true axe handle maker for sure. His trade in life was a Wagon Smith, specializing in making wooden wagon wheels; a highly regarded skill. When he got to old to man-handle wagon wheels he made axe handles to pedal on the street corner in Nacogdoches Saturday mornings.

Back then it was common to pedal anything of value on the corner across from the 'bone yard' where Saturday shoppers would park their mules and wagons. A really good hickory axe handle usually went for about $1.00, whereas a simple custom made hammer handle was about $0.50. Of course, there was no charge for anyone not having the money...
