there's a place in Houston that sells aircraft tires for implements -- I got a pr for the front of the old 8n several years back. Is there anybody near you that does that? When they go flat - you don't know it -- the sidewalls are so strong they stand up to everything but the heaviest load.

After yesterday I won't use slime in a tire again except in an emergency. I had to fix a tire I put slime in a year ago. What a mess!! I had to clean all that slime out of the tire and rim. I should have just fixed it right when it went flat a year ago.

Most tire places locally now charge a removal and cleaning fee to remove 'sealers'.

Hey Soundguy,
Sorry for the rough day. All have them once in a while - they're just so darn aggravatin' and always seem to happen when least expected nor don't have the time nor the patience for them. Start out to do a simple task, then next thing you know, it's getting dark and the task is still remaining to do. Mine was the stuck oil filter a couple of months ago. Simple task that should have taken no more than 30 minutes took several hours and a some choice words used at the appropriate moment.

Have a buddy that works in a tire shop and they do charge extra to work on tires that have had slime or other "stop leak" fluids used. I use slime in my riding mower and wheel barrow (although when the wheel barrow goes flat going to get one of those solid rubber ones from Lowe's). Have used in the car that stopped a small, annoying leak. However, it eventually gave way and had to be replaced.

Looked into the foam filled once, but, the guy who was going to do it talked me out of it. Said they are great if you are working in an area prone to punctures - which I am not. But, when the tire has to be replaced, have to chip the foam off. He said that in some cases, its cheaper to buy a new wheel than to have them chip the foam and in some instances removing the foam could damage the wheel. This was several years ago, might be different and better now.

Hang in their buddy. Know it doesn't help and may not want to hear, but it could have been worse - the rat had the worst day of all I think. :D

What do you have on that wheel 6 lugs, 8 lugs? Hard pressed to drive 90 minutes for just one. Heck around here you might see them missing 1-2-3 (yikes!). At least on the fronts anyway, most folks have more respect for the rears, if one of them fall off your tractor goes way over! The bigger the tractor, the more you fall!

6 lugs on front.. but it's a large(ish) tractor.. a Nh 7610s.. and the 10.00-16 tire has a pretty large profile.. larger than a car tire. If it cme off.. it' be a big issue.. Probably would eat the hub, and perhaps the spindle, pitman arm and draglink.. not to mention scare the bajeebers out of me. I have to road that machine about 8m round trip to get to/from my pasture when i mow. Luck being as it is.. the rim would let go on the .25m section of the 4 lane i cross to get to the 3.75m of backroad I drive vs the nice soft pasture... etc.

I know the 90 minute drive was bad.. But I had wasted the day already.. and had just enough time to go do it.. so i figured I might as well fix it correctly.. and seings as how i was gonna be replacing tires in months anyway.. i bought a few extra at a few bucks a pop just to make sure that none of the others left me stranded the same way...

Understand. Biggest we ran was BIL's old MF 1080. Pretty good size tractor, about 90hp. We ran that one missing some once, heck I'd wear a seat belt on that tractor if it had one!! :)

Soundguy, I have some 1000-16 4 rib Harvest Kings in stock. Here is the info

http://www.tbcprivatebrands.com/search/viewline.asp?id=256&s=&b=&bya=1

I also have Firestone or Goodyear, if you would rather have a major brand. Frankly, I see no reason to pay the extra money for this application, but I do have them.

Price of the HK would be $91.00, fob central Illinois. If you are interested, let me know your zip code and I will figure freight.

My Daddy always said "It always looks the darkest just before it gets TOTALLY BLACK! The light at the end of the tunnel really just might be a train.

Yeah we've all one of those days that one thing broke only to find out a necessary tool is broken and the alternate tool can't be found. Just remember, "If first you don't succeed........Get a bigger hammer"!
