I know there is a machine to install revits in sickle bar blades. But can you do it by hand, if you just need a few

Just as bcp's Farm Journal pictures show using an anvil and hammer works fine. Just make sure the bottom of the rivet is seated flush and the bar is firmly against the anvil while striking with the hammer.

My late father used a Ford 501 3 pth mower for years, and always put his own rivets on, without a special machine. Ground the old ones off, put the bar and new rivet over a sledge hammer head, and banged it down with a hammer, Slow, but it worked.

I now have a disc mower!!

Yep. It's fairly straightforward once you get started. As long as the sections are tight to the bar your good.
