Brian, I think you already own a dedicated sickle mower, but look at this hydraulic skid steer attachment. The seven foot long sickle mower can be operated vertically or horizontally. Check out the video on this website that shows the mower being used vertically at the top of the skid steer reach to trim overhead trees. Description says it has a breakaway feature to prevent damage if you hit something. This looks like it could do many different useful jobs.

Gadgetnut,
That Skid-Sickle looks cool. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Three attachments to consider are the (1) the Bobcat Brush Saw, which seems best handling thicker stuff and cutting it off just below ground level with best cutting close to the ground, (2) certain tree shears that can be rotated and used a bit in the air to cut logs and limbs, and (3) this new hydraulic sickle bar from Skid Steer Solutions. With miles of roads and trails, I'd like to try out all three (esp. with a Front Window Guard)! Many other forestry industry in-the-air cutters are just too much for a Toolcat or a reg. skid steer to handle.

What makes this option so attractive is the sickle bar's light weight, long reach, and its design enabling relatively safe pruning and cutting up in the air of drooping branches 2" thick or less. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
