I have a Belarus 825 (it isnt a "compact" per say but this is a great forum so I wnated to get folks thoughts) and was out working in the paddock today and it ran out of fuel (gauge doesn't work). I went and got some fuel and put 10 gallons in it. I attempted to hand prime it and try to start. I thought it was going to kick over and it did but ran really rough (for instance, throttle was set at 1/2 open and it would just fluctuate from 300 RPM to 1400 RPM (when it should be at smooth 1600 RPM at half throttle)) and finally just died. I attempted to restart and my hand slipped off the key, before the engine could completely stop I turned the key and BOOM seized the engine. I reached up and turned the key again so quickly I didnt even have time to tell myself to wait like I normally do.
I have some mechanical expertise and I have replaced engines in older model cars before, but never rebuilt an engine or other major part. I also have a large array of tools.
So basically I am considering an in-frame engine rebuild. Is that the right approach?
I was going to take a socket & breaker bar and attempt to manually turn over but have read that is a 1 in a xxxxxx shot that works.
Basically any and all thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks!
