Guess I need to start by saying my favorite rifle is my 22/250 model 77 Ruger. Im always looking at ammo prices and laod specs from different manufacturers. I realize that cheap is not the way to go when looking for shot accuracy /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif My Uncle Dave was telling me about some loads he bought for his Ruger 22/250. Federal Premium- Vital Shock 60 gr nosler partition. OK, I know that 60 gr is a hot load for that ammo. But what does nosler partition mean. A box of those cost $25.50, which I would consider expensive for this caliper. I have had good luck with Hornady myself, just curious what others think. I usually get the Hornady Varmint load for about $13 a box but Im understanding that brass prices are going up and that price is rising as well.

On a side note, Uncle Dave was telling me about a TV program, hunting channel I guess where a guy shoots a coyote at 460 yds with a Savage 22/250 with a new Leopold scope, took that coyote down like he was 200 ft away.

Thanks for any input you have on ammo your using!

And it is possible to drop a deer at 100 yards with a 22 LR (no, I will NEVER tell how I know that, and no I am/was not silly enough to have tried myself), but it is not a likely scenario. 22/250 is a fun caliber. I have used it many times on groundhogs out to several hundred yards. I have also had too many long shots with that caliber that were not clean kills on groundhogs. Kills yes, but not clean in my estimation. After my first full year of groundhog hunting I switched to a .243. I was shooting over several fields where 300-400 yard shots were frequently available, and 250 yard shots were the rule of thumb. The .243 never left one moving after a hit. Never. That had not been true with my 22/250. Just my $.02 worth, and worth everything you paid for it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nosler is the company name and "partition" means the bullet has a copper H-shape with a lead core in front and back. That didn't make much sense...

Try this link for a video that will help explain the NP.

I'm none of the above but #3 on this link partition gets to specific.
I have reloaded with these for ground hogs with great results Ballistic Tips The two links allow for bullet comparison. The rifling rate is more important in considering bullet weight no matter the bullet brand.
