Silver solder stainless

$50 a pound for silver solder??? More like $50 an ounce and most likely even more than that.

Well, I got a few chuckles yesterday watching my buddy trying to burn the 308 and even 309 rods. My old tombstone will only go down to 35amp and you really have to run on that tincan thick material to keep from burning thru. Weld, grind, weld, grind some more, seemed to be the chore for the day. Tried 3/32 and 1/8 rods, didnt have anything smaller. Dont know whether to buy a few 1/6 dia rods, but since I cant turn the welder down anymore, dont know if it would help or not.

I've never done stainless to stainless, but stainless to brass in transport refrigeration we use a 30% silver solder. MH was on the dot with the heat issue. Get it too hot, it turns black and won't stick till it's ground down and try again. Not very forgiving when it comes to applying the heat.
