Ive boiled it down to these two, Simplicity Prestige or J.D. X540. Both two wheel drive about the same price, Deere slightly more. What do yall think? I need it to mow two acres and plow 250' driveway, some steep stuff too.
Both are nice models but if you can save a few bucks and you like the Simplicity...As for plowing a 250' drive way that would depend on how much snow and how steep. I have plowed my drive with a 2WD tractor but it is level and we don't ever really get that much snow.
I don't know anything about the Simplicity, but I did have an x540 for a while. It climbed like a mountain goat and gave a pretty good cut. it really seemed to drink a lot of gas though. I traded up to the 2305. alot more cash, but a lot more in line with what I really needed.
Not to veer the thread off course, but a left over 4X4 Kubota GR2000 or 2100 can be had for short money right now.Mid 6's for the diesel, and mid 5's for the gas model. No weights or chains needed for plowing and they love"steep".
Perhaps the attachments: quality, design, and ease of use might help you decide. It's hard to beat JD attachment design. The hydraulic blade works great. But, you'll need weights and chains to be effective. I do this with my 425. Works real well, but putting those chains on every fall is a PITA.
