Its amazing that no grocery stores have yeast. This has been going on around here for a couple months.

Any simple way to make some??

Well, you would first have to start with some yeast to grow and feed and multiply your yeast colony and then could take some and process it into dried yeast for use. You do know that yeast are living organisms and unless you are a God and can create life then you are going to have some troubles "making" some yeast. :)

This is another good reason to keep some sour dough starter, going on your counter.

If you are looking to make your own yeast, then that is exactly what sourdough starter is. I've had mine going for 10 years now. Doesn't always have to be on the counter though, will survive extended stays in the refrigerator without feeding (three months safely). Takes a little more patience to make sourdough bread, but tastes much better in my opinion.

Would take a couple of weeks to create a viable sourdough starter.

I`m not sure now how it was done, but in a boating cook book years ago, the was a method for making bread at sea. The basic idea was to use flour a bit of salt, and beer. The yeast being in the beer. I never tried it, but as I remember, the picture in the magazine looked all right. I cannot remember if anything else was added.
