I have 2 Regents, one is my main mowing machine. One is for parts and does not have much history.
On the parts machines, I did a head gasket and some other cleaning/maintenance work and got it running really well. However, it only goes about 5 miles and hour on flat lawn and really does not want to go in reverse. Would this be transmission or the drive belt (I don't see it slipping, but...) , What should I check first to see if it's xmission or belt or... The engine does run strong now.

Your best line of defense is to eliminate external issues such as a sticking brake caliper, poor belt tension, pedal travel etc. Model number?

This is a 14HP Hydro 1692975 . Belt does not seem loose, no brake noise or heat. Pedal movement seems the same as my other Regent. Just seems slow. On a down hill it will pick up speed, so don;t think it's brakes. I need to check xmission levels next. It;s about $35 for a belt, so maybe that is next on the list?

1672135SM is the number that I came up with.
