Single Remote Lever Wont' Stay in Position

Hi,
The part you are looking at is called the spool positioner. They are an assembly that is available from Kioti. One is about $150 w/ shipping and the other is about $185.00 w/ shipping.
I think when replacing these parts you would want to remove the spools and check for contamination and check the sleeve they slide in for dirt or rust. I guess what I'm getting at is to not just to perform 1/2 the job. All of these parts have to work properly for the valve to do what it is supposed to do.
Your local dealer should be able to give you a breakdown of these 2 kits and how to remove the spools/rods for cleaning and inspection. If you get stuck just inquire on this site, you are sure to get some help.

Hodak:
Have you pulled the cap off the bottom ( the Spool Plunger cap)
and take a look and see if the balls are in the cap. they could be all gummed up or rusted and not moving the way they should. Take a look at the pictures I posted.. As the other posts state, there is 3 balls in there, and they need grease to keep them working.
The Fox 1940

The three balls are there and intact. When the tractor was new, the detent worked great and then slowly become weak. I pulled the cap and there was a lot of corrosion. Greased, got the balls free and re assembled - no improvement. I believe everything is wore down from no lubrication. Right now, I don't feel like experimenting with a new cap to see if that would fix the problem. I've had the cap off a few times to make sure the balls are in place and they are. The plunger might be worn or the balls or both. You can feel the plunger pass by the balls where the detent use to be, but the return spring easily overcomes the detent position. I don't use the float much anyway - not much back dragging going on. If there is the need, I hold it in place. I have other priorities these days and if I was sure that 150.00 would fix it - no problem.

Mine is taking more and more of a detent after a couple hours use.

Another case of if you don't use it, you lose it...

Mike

Edit: Well detent not getting any better.

Quadpa, I could not have fixed DK45S with a backhoe without your info. Thanks

I tried to fix this on the tractor but you gotta take it off. Support the right rear or the tractor (sitting on it) with a sturdy jack stand on a very solid surface or you could be killed if it fell or tipped off the support. Remove the tire and the inspection cover, tie it up instead of trying to remove the wire going through it. Remove the valve being careful not to loose or tear the o-rings, remove two nuts in front, two hydro hose flow through bolts on top and the operational lever & slide it off. (There is a round disc that will separate from the valve body once the nuts are removed) Remove the cover carefully, the 4 balls & spring will/may fly off when you take off the cover or after you get the cover off and start trying to clean/remove them, they are corroded, once you start breaking them loose, they will fly. There are 3 smaller on the sides of the shaft and a larger one setting on top of the detent spring. Clean everything good, spray with brake cleaner, blow it out, etc. Wrap the two parts of the valve body with duct tape to hold them together then wrap all of it in a rag then clamp it in a vice (do not damage the machined surfaces) Reassembly process: Super glue the large ball to one end of the spring, let dry (helps keep things tight in case they fly off again).
Put the spring & ball in the hole which is pointing up at this point, get a match or similar to put a small amount of axle grease in the 3 holes where the small balls go then put them in (grease is sticky & holds them in). Remove the set screw and insert a drill bit, clamp on a set of locking pliers or Vice Grips at the pointed end, the blunt end goes on top of the detent ball. Push the ball & spring down and push the actuation lever up which causes the assembly to lower so the threads will start when you tighten. Note: If you use a bit that is too fat, the 3 smaller balls will hit against it and you can't slide the cover over it, choose a smaller bit. Once the valve is reinstalled, you may need to adjust the cap and set screw. Mind had to be loosened up a little. The hydro lever would stick in the lower position but not the upper. I backed off on the cap & set screw, tested several times to get it just right then lock it down. You just saved yourself $300 and did it yourself. It's not hard, just don't do it when your in a hurry or when your hungry.

Side note, I lost 2 of my small balls :) but found them with a magnet, I thought I may have to buy them from Kioti but no. If you need some, check Ebay, there were 100 pcs for around $6. They measured about 5.5 mm. I am not stating this is the size you need or that will 100% fit yours, that's what mine were. The standard size would work as well as long as they are about the same diameter. Top ball? I didn't measure it because I didn't loose it but any size would work as long as it fit on top of the spring and wasn't so big it didn't fit in the pipe.
