I just did a site search using the phrase "beer brewing" and it returned nearly all of the threads. So, wondering if it does an OR search, I put the phrase "beer brew" in quotes instead, and the search result was identical. Many of the threads didn't even contain the word "brew" at all.
It appears the "Search entire site" search is flaking out, as searches in quotes should be the exact phrase, not an OR search. In fact, the default search is typically an AND, not OR, as with google, yahoo, bing and other major players.
This place has tons of great information, but if someone can't find it, it may as well not exist.
Do a search for "beer brew" and see how many pages of thread listings you must scroll through before you get to a single one with 'beer' or 'brew' even in the title. It's really bad. Also, thread titles should be given a greater weight than post bodies, as the likelihood of a thread based on the search criteria being what the person is looking for is far greater than a single post in an unrelated thread. This requires some advanced SQL queries, but it is far more meaningful than a bunch of random threads where post #427 has a keyword in it.
Before it is mentioned, yes, I know vB has an advanced search, and it is horrid. The site search should still conform to internet standards, though, respecting quotes and defaulting to AND.
