EXCELLENT job. I think the plexiglass panel on the top/front edge is an excellent touch. It will allow you to see up, yet still offers protection. I also like the shape of your top, most are very wide and futhre limit upward visibility.

Did you set any foam between the plexi and the steel support under it (to keep it from "chattering" due to vibration)?

I used silicone sealant to dampen the vibrations with slight adjustments on RPM, If that doesn't work I turn the sound up loud /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have lots of pictures but their are too many to post so I'll just post a few at a time.

Have you looked into using the TBN Photo Gallery?

Thanks Dave!
But unless someone was interested in seeing certain phases of construction, like the radio or how it was mounted to the tractor ect. ect. I would just be taking up TBN's computer space.

Mansker,

That turned out real nice.

On mine I used expaneded metal on the top of the frame, because I wanted to have a good view upwards, but it does let a lot of sun through. I tried putting some thin plywood on top to give me shade, but it reflected so much sound back down at me that I gave up on it and took it off.

Ended up using cloth, which seems to absorb sound and not reflect it back down. Did you use some kind of sound absorbing material on the bottom of the cover? What gage steel did you use for the cover? Did you notice increased reflected engine noise after you installed your FOPS?

I ended up supporting the top in a way that I could remove the front supports easily to facilitate removing the loader if I want...but really see no need to do that since I don't finish mow with the larger tractor...

My biggest motivation for making something like this was more fear of the tractor tipping beside a tree, and having my seatbelt hold me in tight as the tree slid down MY side of the ROPS and ... squash, maybe...

Here is a link to a thread I posted on the evolution of my "head protector" earlier in the year, in case any of the new guys might be interested...

Hood Guard…Head Guard

Perhaps there is a hood guard in your future, Mahsker! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another nice project. I have been thinking about doing this because next years projects involve getting the tractor into the woods, for trail maintenance and firewood. I have worried about fops protection, my woods need a lot of thinning and have lots of widowmakers up high.

My trick will be to figure out a foldable fops (FFOPS /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) ) so it will clear my garage door /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The pictures have been great, now how about an mpeg of that awesome sound system /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was thinking the same thing! Love the geese!
Nice pic with the water, but it all seems so peaceful for anything but earphones...
Nice fabrication job.
