There are multiple producers of heavy Disc Harrows today. The buyer has to pay for the weight.

Some names: Monroe Tufline, Brown Manufacturing, Rome.

Jeff, thanks for the info on the heavy duty ones those are really sweet a little pricey but I imagine they get the job done. The ones I was referring to are the ones at Tractor supply, Rural king etc they don't have a lot of weight. I don't think 25hp would be enough to pull the Brown 6 ft heavy duty one effectively

I had a kubota L2500 DT 4wd that I would pull a 6 1/2' foot with 18" disc and it had no problems. When I had turfs on the tractor it would occasionally get stuck on slopes but could easily push myself back out with the loader. With Ag tires never had an issue. I would usually put about 400# of weight on the disc to help it cut into the soil better.

Like others have said it really comes down to the type of dirt you have. If you have sandy loam you won't have any issues if you are working a soil with a lot of clay its going to really test your tractor.

As for tiller or disc it really comes down to how much soil your working. If you are doing small plots than a tiller is probably a better choice. If your doing anything over 1/2 an acre than a disc would be my choice.

What are your plans? Are you thinking of making some food plots in the woods for game? If so then a tiller is not going to be a good option. Have you looked around at some of the rental places? I have two near me that rent attachments. if you can rent one you can decide for yourself if it's a good fit. I don't know much about discs but I would think you would want enough weight to get it to cut into the soil. Which brings up another question, are you going to use a turning plow and then the disc or just the disc. If just the disc how tough is your soil?

Curious why you would say that "anything over 1/2 an acre then a disc would be my choice."?

I routinely till 5 acre small fields with a 6' tiller, takes about 2 hrs 15 minutes/acre making one pass at 1 mph and a second pass in opposing direction at 1.8 mph. That is about 7 inches deep and seedbed ready in most cases. In slightly damp ground I can cut a half hour off per acre and do this in 1 hr 45 mins. This is in old pastures that have not been worked in decades.

Ground that has been worked in the last year or two can be tilled in an hour/acre at 1.5 to 1.8 mph.

This is using a 60 hp tractor and 6' tiller.

I agree.

Another hat for a tiller. As stated a tiller alone or tiller and spike harrow and you are finished, one trip if ground sandy loam or broken up last year . On size I had a 6' on my Ford 3000 which is less than 40 hp but hp is not the biggie with the tiller. To work properly discs have to be heavy and run fast, the faster the better. Tillers run slow so your 25 hp is used in working the soil, not propelling you over it....actually when you hit a hard spot with a normal direction (cuts into the dirt from top to bottom, reverse rotation cut from the bottom to the top) rotating tiller it will push the tractor forward.

Sorry if this is a newbie question but hey I am one!
Need to know if a Kioti 25hst can handle a 6 foot disc harrow. Don't want to find out it can't once I buy it.
It handles a 5ft brush hog on hills.
Thanks!

Have a hard time with reading? It was answered directly in at least 4 posts and every post gave great advice.

But I would think the OP has figured it out as it has been over 6 years since the question was asked.
