On making a pond, hire an excavator or dozer. You'll make a big mud hole, get stuck and have to get towed out.

Well I have priced out the bx23 and b7510/7610 at 2 dealers now and I do really like the b series due to the higher ground clearance and the full cat 1. As far as attachments I was thinking of a fel, box scraper and rear blade then later a finish mower. The b7610 is about $1000 more, What would I gain? You now have me thinking of including the b7800 but I think it would be too much for my budget right now. I would love to have 2 tractors but I am still having sticker shock over just the one so I am going to try and find a common mid range tractor. And now I can say the pond is off the list! The dealer said he would not let me try them at my property but they are going to setup some to test drive.

Have you looked at any other brand of tractor? I don't have near the acerage you do but found the Farmtrac brand to be nice and well priced. I Picked up a 39 hp diesel with a loader and backhoe for $23,000 with the full warranty. But if your heart is set on the B or BX series. I would stick to the higher power idea. Then the riding mower. Sometimes the cost of the mower deck for the tractors is twice the price of a good rider! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Matt - I would recommend getting 4-wheel drive on whatever your final choice is. I dropped down in horsepower to get 4-wheel drive (budget issues) and am glad that I did. It's come in handy on many occasions.

Service is an important issue. My Farmtrac dealer is only 15 miles from my house so it's not bad. He keeps a good stock of parts on hand also. Talking with others who bought thru them. Worst case was 3 weeks waiting for parts to the hydrostatic transmission. Myself! So far the only part I needed was a broken pin on the backhoe. They had it in stock and had there mechanic stop by on his way home and put it in. (The tractor is still under warranty, So that helps!) /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

thats a pretty good size peice of property. all the old timers around hear say figure out what size you need then go one size bigger than that. i dont like the thought of my machine having to strain. i think an mx5000 would be good for your work load, its not a full size tractor but would be more matched to your size place.

i agree with the hireing out to have pond built, i had a small 1.75 acre pond dug, 12 ft deep and it took 2 cattipillar D-6 dosers 4 long days to build it. that would probably egual 4 long years with a little tractor and box blade.
