Eddie makes an excellent point. Think LONG and HARD on how the grapple will be used. I did not go with a double lid. I want to handle a large rock in the dead center of the grapple - not on either side where the lid clamps down. With a double lid - you do not have that option. Single lid will clamp down - all the way across the grapple.
I've switched from a single lid root rake to double lid long bottom grapple and have zero regrets. For brush, trees and rocks the double lid does a way better job. I generally don't do center picks on the grapple with smaller rocks due to poor visibility over the hood. On large rocks the twin lid actually grabs the rocks better on multiple points. The single lid usually only grabbed a single point on a large rock and struggled to hold onto them.
