Sizing Disc To Tractor

How big can it be? I have a 2006 John Deere 75 hp at PTO, two wheel drive. How big of a disc can I pull in my south Texas soil? Its usually pretty dry. I want to smoothen up a few small fields which I have had the brush cleared off of.

10 ft pull type or 7 ft three point hitch cutting disc or a 12 foot finishing disc should be easy to pull with that tractor

Here's my 13-ft Minneapolis Moline KS1300 tandem wheel disc that I cut down to about 10.5 ft by removing several of the outer pans.



I can pull it with my Mahindra 5525 (54 hp engine, 45 hp pto) in dry conditions with the disc set at half its maximum cutting angle. If the soil is soft, my 5525 runs out of steam trying to pull this heavy disc. You can use the hydraulics on the disc to lower the wheels and reduce the depth of cut to get it to move but I generally switch to my 6.5 ft offset disc when I can't use the 1300.

I found this one at my tractor dealer's place for $600. Only other expense was paint since the pans are in good shape.

Your tractor would have a much easier time pulling something like this than my 5525 especially in dry soil.
