skid plate on tc45d and magnetic block heater

I agree. I got the magnetic heater to put in other places, for instance when it was 30 below I stuck it to the bottom of my battery holder to warm up my battery, or I'll stick it to my woodsplitter hydraulic pump to make it easier to crank over. I tried sticking it to the transmission to try to warm up the hydraulics on the tractor, but it didn't seem to make any difference. I think the sluggish loader was from the cold oil in the lines and cylinders. Cycling it a few times loosened it up.

Did you guys notice TC45D was in Poolville, Texas? If it ever gets 30 below here (or below 0º for that matter) there will be a bunch of us packing our bags to move farther south. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK, I guess you put it like that, it sounds stupid. However, he did ask where he could get a magnetic heater, I was just babbling about what I use it for. Hey, I've seen some of those Texas winters. I saw what 6" of snow did to Austin in 1984(plus or minus). San Antonio got 12" in the same storm and it wreaked havok.

Tom, your answer was perfect. I just couldn't pass up the chance to do a little kidding. I truly don't see how you stand those brutal winters year after year. You have my admiration! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was worried about your summers when I moved to Texas in January 1980. After 6 years there then I worried about the winters here before I moved back. Then I decided to stop worrying about the weather.
I want to add that the 6 years there were some of the best in my life. But everybody always goes home, eventually.

Yes you are right the MAGNETIC heater is not for the tractor. Although it would be nice not to have to wait on the tc to warm up. I would like to see how good it works on water troughs for cattle. If you dont keep the ice broke every day it can get pretty thick, but nothing like you guys up north. If anybody has any better idea's they would be appreciated!
Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We put a inground/waterfall/birdbath in the back yard a few years ago. During the winter, I shutoff the waterfall, take a small utility pump, lay it sideways, and it keeps the water from freezing all winter. Even this brutal one. It must be a combination of the constant circulation and the small amount of heat generated by the motor. It's a 1/6hp pump and the pond is 3' wide X 1' deep. With everything in the north country frozen, it's quite popular with the birds.

It is my uderstanding that the magnetic heater was orignally designed to heat gallon cans of paint, but the auto industry also saw a use for it and jump on it. If all you want one for is to keep the cattle water from freezing there are devices out there for just that purpose. I use to install them years ago when I worked for a farm supply outfit. The unit was not the big tank of water type but more on the line of a watering bowl. that way the water never became dirty or stagnet. they were mostly use in the big freestall barns.

My girlfriend has a heater she bought at Tractor Supply that was made specifically to keep stock water tanks from freezing. On cold nights she turns it on and her goats have water all the time. Have you checked at a TSC or other farm store?
