I recently bought a used L39. I LOVE it. It, of course, has the skid steer style quick attach. Me being my cheap self, goes and makes a set of pallet forks. A buddy gave me a fork lift carrier setup and a few hours with the torch and welder and they were mated directly to a skid steer quick attach plate. Great, right?

Not so fast. For some reason the forks "pop off" whenever I put down pressure on them. A real pain when trying to drag into a pallet or any pile of brush. It appears the the quick release pins do not engage the aftermarket skid steer plate as well as the Kubota plate on the bucket. They don't seem to contact the the notch in the plate at all when at rest. I think this is allowing the pins to push up against their spring and release. The handles do not move.

I originally thought this might be an issue with the plate I got...BUT...yesterday I pick up a used grapple bucket. Sure enough, this pops off too with any down pressure! Now, the bucket is WELL used...and I can see a few repairs around the pin notch. There is a possibility this needs some "mods" also.

Has anyone else had any issues like I am experiencing? Any suggestions?

I had a new L3240 with Skid Ssteer QA. Used bucket some and had a set of forks that I had Kubota dealer weld a SSQA plate to. Used the forks some and noticed the forks didn't seem right. One side wasn't attached any more. Couldn't get it to reattach. Noticed my arms were not out the same amount at the cylinder, one was out a few inches further than the other. Tried pushing against a hugh rock and even beating with a sledge against one arm per Kubota dealer mechanic. No luck. Returned to Barlows/dealer for warranty replacement of arms. Out of 13 Kubota purchases the only one I ever had to take back to dealer for warranty or any repair. Barlows fixed/replaced with no questions.

you'll probably need to modify the plate to fit, its probably built a bit out of spec. This is not uncommon, the skid loader coupler spec is not strictly followed.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking.

I was thinking of adding a new "bottom" area to the forks/grapple. Moving the notch in slightly and raising it a bit.

I assume the design is to have pressure on the pins/notch during use and not just have them free-floating there.

I have shimmed the bottom flange of the implement plate when they have a loose fit as supplied. [I guess thats better than too tight!] I just weld in a few pieces of flat stock strategically in the vicinity of the pin slot, esp where the pins bear. Havnt had a problem.

I read that whole thread.

I have good contact with the top face of the tractor and upper portion of the adapter. The stepped Kubota piece does not seem to be my issue like it is on the Markham.

I watched carefully as I applied down pressure to my forks. There is about 1/4" gap between the loader bracket and the adapter. I think this is allowing the pins to "ride" up it on their taper and push up. They basically just "release" without the handles moving.

I think step 1 might be to reinforce the base. I believe there should be some tension between the pins and the bucket when engaged, correct?

Had a set of forks that I bought that did the exact same thing. I added a second set of the plates to the bottom to make it 2x as thick and it solved the problem.
Good luck
