My 75-3 Kubota caught on fire today. The engine bay on this machine was completely clean. It’s never even been in the woods before. It flashed an error code about the injectors and a minute or so later and it was in flames. It had 55 hours on it.

Glad you are okay and hope you had it insured or KTAC, if so I would have let that mother burn to the dirt, I bet it will trace back to something in the emissions system, gotta love all these regulations on diesel equipment.

agreed if the unit is insured. I would purposely wait until the unit is destroyed before calling the fire department or trying to stop it (as long as it could be done safely) last thing you want is for insurance to want to repair it.

It is insured. And it’s definitely totaled but the dirt saved the tracks that only have 50 hours use, the forestry door, the seat and the attachment that wasn’t insured.

Matching orange, I wonder if a John Deere makes green flames when it burns?

I assume and hope no injuries?

My dad was running it at the time and he escaped fine.

I don’t think anyone will deny it’s totaled. I won’t accept the machine back “fixed” but I don’t think they’ll suggest that. Those tracks are about 3 grand each that I successfully saved and the seat is probably a grand that is unharmed and I paid $2200 to upgrade the forestry door that’s unharmed. And the mower that’s on the front is uninsured. Besides being covered in dirt it’s unharmed.

Scary how quickly that can happen. One reason why I have 2 fire extinguishers on my tractor.

I was going to put one on but I couldn’t find a suitable mounting spot for anything besides a baby one. That would have been better than nothing but probably wouldn’t have salvaged it.

Glad you made it out ok.

How much time did you have to get out of your milk crate of death?

I never liked the fact that the only alternative exits are under the load, over the load, or out the back window over the engine.

At least the main door opens up instead of swinging out.

That is scary. The 75-3 is a really nice machine. Let us know when you find out what caused it.

Hmmm...so growing up, did you ever get in trouble with your Dad for ruining anything of his???

Seriously, glad he got out OK!

Machines can be replaced, not so much Dads...

Local guy used a Cat CTL for forestry mulching. It caught fire in the woods on a job. Thought he had it extinguished with his fire extinguisher, but it caught back on fire and burned up his CTL and the expensive mulching head, too. He was pretty careful about keeping his machine clean. That was a sobering conversation that made me lose interest in owning one.

That really sucks! I'm pretty adamant about safety, including fire extinguishers. But you point out a good point that some of these pieces of equipment don't have a good place to mount one. It really should be thought out in the equipment design.
