Hello,

Have started my war on Cedar trees, and wondered if using the FEL hooks on my bucket is a mistake?

Its better to me dragging them backwards with my FEL so I can see whats going on.

The trees are whole and some of them are large.

My B21 will pull the bigger trees, but I worry about bending or breaking my FEL.

Is there a better way?

Yes, pull with the drawbar, thats what it is made for. You can goon up your loader by torquing it in ways it wasn't designed to have pressure put on it.

Qualifier:

If the trees are only 5 in in diam, they are just big brush. Use the loader and ram them around. If you are getting into bigger stuff 12+, its time to start dragging from the drawbar.

Put it this way, if you can lift it with the loader easy, drag it with the loader. If you cant lift the whole thing EASILY, turn around and use the drawbar.

Skidding trees with your fel is a good way to flip your tractor. The center of gravity on the Fel is much higher than using the drawbar.

Take it from someone who busted a loader mount from pushing over trees. Use your loader for loading and use your drawbar for pulling. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Took care of that problem got a Tajfun winch, like a Farmi only heavier. Been looking at them awhile and since I found a buyer for my trees I said what the heck.

Spark- I've gone through similar thinking and ended up purchasing a T-Bar Hitch to run off the 3 point. Have received much good advice from TBN and hope to get a Farmi winch when I can afford it. Info in the archives on several threads - you might also want to check out www.mdsgroup.net/log_hitch.htm. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Try this one:

Corrected link for T-Bar hitch

Sparkkky,

Attached is a pic of the bracket I welded together about 4 years ago to drag and lift stuff with the 3ph. It cost me < $100.00 and about an hour of my time. I use it mainly to lift the log and then I attach a chain to the draw bar which would do most of the pulling to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. With it and my little B6000 with bald tires I would drag 25' logs with little effort.

Next is to beef it up a bit for the L3710, if it ever gets here! But I have no doubt it could handle everything the 3710 could dish out.
