I just finished up a skidding hitch that I built out of mostly leftovers. My first welding project with my new Lincoln Powermig 256. Hope to try out the hitch in the next couple weeks now that the snow up here is finally gone

Thanks. I wanted to be able to get the end of the log off of the ground. So that’s why I put the hooks higher. I figured that would greatly reduce the likelihood of having the end catch on stuff. I plan to hook the choker, lift the 3 point and go slow. Anxious to try it. Have a lot of tops to skid out.

That looks like it should work quite well.

There is a 99% chance that it will work OK, but, Hmmmmm
There is always a concern,,,

the top link of your tractor is really designed to work in compression , not tension.
Look at how much weaker the top link is as compared to the two lower arms.

What will happen is that you will be going along, the log will hit a stump, and stop suddenly,,
the sudden stop will destroy the top link, or the connection to the tractor.

Depending on the tractor, the part that holds the top link can get VERY pricey,,,

Add a couple hooks down low at the hitch arm level, and use the lower hooks when possible.

JMHO,, of course,,,

I think you have it backwards, the toplink is designed to work in tension, not in compression. That's why the lower links are heavier than the top link.

You could search the forum, people have pulled apart the top link and brackets,,
I have never seen a thread on a pulled apart lower arm,,,
