If I had tame skunks protecting my farm I would not have to deal with trespassers or have trouble getting evidence on them.

I claim protection skunks as a home based business opportunity if DieselPower does not want it. I am now looking for franchisee investors. Pure bred, hand trained skunks for home protection straight from DieselPower's farm, $2500 each, homeowner's insurance discount up to 25%.

Now you need to start breeding them. Lets say mix skunk and a mule - it kicks and it sprays

What do you feed the skunks to attract them?

Also think it's strange that there's a fox with the skunks in one photo and he's not bothering the skunks?

I have 3 red fox's that stop by and they get along fine with the skunks. I think it comes down to they each know better along with they have become accustomed to each other.

At first when I started feeding them years ago I just gave them table scraps. In recent years I actually make them scrambled egg's and throw out a can of dog food each night.

As strange as it may seem having so many skunks around I almost never smell skunk spray. I guess they figure why stink up their own backyard.

We seem to have had a skunk bloom around here. There were at least three smelly road bumps on the way to work. I had one come wandering toward the house the other day. The wife thought our big black cat had something white in his mouth and was walking funny. When I saw what it was, it was still far enough away so that I went out and made lots of noise to make it go elsewhere. I almost stepped on one right outside the backdoor. I saw some black fur through the window and again thought it was the cat wanting to be fed....it did want cat food I bet, but it was the wrong cat!

We were talking to our vet recently about the possibility of our cats being bitten by rabid skunks. The vet said she has never treated a cat for a bite from a skunk. Skunks and cats are very similar animals and seem to get along naturally. Anybody here ever have a cat that was bitten or sprayed by a skunk? Maybe a cranky ol' tomcat?

Just saw a good program on tv a few weeks ago on Skunks. Skunks were once thought to be part of the same animal family as weasels, ferrets, and badgers (Mustelidae) but recent DNA testing has shown they are recognized as more distantly related to other animals and were identified as a separate family (Mephitidae).

When Vin wa here this fall, we were on tha patio eating dinner, talking ect. Definitely not being quiet. I went to go in the house for a moment, noticed the cat was to the side of it's outdoor bed. Well, there 20' from where all of us were, was a skunk taking a nap in the cats bed. Did not seem to care about the cat, or us. I got within 5' to take a picture. It totally did not care. Just yawned... It has been back since. We have to put the cat food away at night.
