Can someone explain to me how the skuttle shift is suppose to work on a TD95 D New Holland? The dealer is telling us that you need to use the clutch to put the skuttle shift lever in reverse. Does this sound correct? We are thinking that you should not need the clutch unless you change gears withe the gear shift lever, and that you should be able to go from reverse to forward and vice versa without clutching using the skuttle shift lever. Can anyone please shed some light on this for us?

I don't know about your particular tractor, but on most tractors with a forward / revers shuttle you should be able to change without clutching.

Many tractors nowadays have a left hand reverse lever behind the steering wheel to quickly slip into reverse.

But I don't know if some tractors only have power shift going through gears and not changing direction?

Do you mean shuttle shift? I'm a bit confused:confused:

On my tn75a I havethe shuttle shift with 16 speed tranny. I was told I could shift from forward to reverse without clutching. Tractor does the clutching for you.However....... when I am shredding and have the throttle set at high rpms I do use the foot clutch otherwise tractor will lurch quickly. i.e, easier to control machine with foot clutch. But for loader work I just use the foot trottle to speed up or slow down machine and I do not use the foot clutch unless I am trying to inch along. You can shift through the four gears in each range while moving but you have to use the clutch. If you dont an error message will pop up on your dashboard the symbol looks like a sun. (0) This is all I know. Hope it helps

the shuttle on the TD95 is synchro shuttle. which means you are literally sliding shuttlegear which changes directions just like changing gears but it does it using same gear just spins other direction. with hydro shuttle it uses fluid to cushion change ( Like automatic transmission) so foot clutch is not necessary. I hope I didnt confuse more than I helped. most of time synchro is more money and TD series tractor is more of New Hollands economy tractor line.( Lots of good heavy duty stuff with out all the bells and whistles of TL-TN lines)

I think the answer depends on the version of the transmission. You can get the 95 w/ the synch or power shuttle I believe. The power shuttle does the clutching for you. The synch shuttle reqs you to do that. Other than the automatic nature of the power shuttle I think the wet clutch that comes w/ it is a good thing.

Yes, I mean shuttle shift. Sorry about that.

Am I hearing this correctly. You are saying there is a synchronous shuttle shift which requires no manual clutching to change the shuttle shift from reverse to forward or vice versa, and there is a power shuttle shift that does require you to have to clutch manually with the foot clutch when you change from forward to reverse or vice versa?

Looking at New Hollands website they only show a synchronous shuttle shift available with the TD95D?

No problem ..it was just a twist of the toung :D :D

I do not own anything that has power shuttle or shuttle shift. My understanding is that power shift only does not require clutching so you can go reverse and forward by moving a power shuttle handle making it extremely suitable to loader work second only to hydrostatic transmission. A shuttle only is the position they design for a forward gear and reverse(usually low gear) that you can go from forward to reverse in one continous motion. Imagine in a stick shift auto the rear gear would be directly in line with first gear past neutral position. That would be advantageous to tractor but not car. With basic shuttle shift you do need to clutch. That's my 2 cents and I'm sure there is a design out there that totally contradict me.:)
