Be carefull on switching to a goose neck hitch. Check with the trailer manufacturer and see if the trailer frame will stand up to the different stresses a goose neck will put on it. Some manufacturers will void warranties on new trailers if you switch to this style of hitch.

John, only in the last five years or so have I seen travel trailers with the gooseneck adapter. The ones I've seen personally did not extend anything forward, although such may exist. They were simply to enable towing with a vehicle with the gooseneck hitch ball without having to add a fifth-wheel.
And while "most" fifth-wheel trailers are big enough that trucks bigger than a half-ton are used to tow them, I know of fifth-wheel trailers down to 19' that I could tow easily with my Ford Ranger. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif A brother-in-law and his wife lived in a 24' fifth-wheel for a couple of years, seldom towed it, but when they did, they towed it with a 6 cylinder half ton Ford.
